Looks like a whole lot a little fish!  The heavy fish get ya half way down the thumb, between the knuckles.

That looks like black Tuesday mildew, combined with too many fish and a limit of ling cod.

PJ, I feel your pain.

You need to consider some pescadorial protection.  AKA- a thumb condom.  It will keep that member of your anatomy in tip top shape, and ready to taking on the 8 lb vermillions that are rumored to populate south big sur :smt003 :smt003 :smt003 :smt003.  Looks like you need the steel belted kind!

Now you guys got me going!!!  I had to look through my archives, the photo was taken on 8/16, the day, or day after, one of our trips that a few of you were on.  I'm not sure which day so I can't pin an exact # on my tally for the day but I would guess it's 3 Big Verms, 1 Big Brown & 20+ Blacks.  My camera went in the drink right before that on a trip to ECDD so it may have been Andy & my second outing there.

As for today, I don't know if anyone checked it out but this is what it looked like here, 12 foot faces plus, sets to 15 feet, not a good day for kayak fishing.  I'm guessing that since the season goes till end of November we'll be facing these types of days here & there. We lost some kelp down here but it looked like the offshore stuff was still o.k.

PJ - It was the big-sur type of fishing that made you forget of hurting. Seriously, a pair of gloves will solve the problem nicely. I was there.
