Just got back from tossing buzz bait and weedless swim baits in the yak and was experiencing some fatigue after a while.  I don't have any expensive light rods yet.  But was wondering for the bass guys what spinning and bait cast rods you role with.  By the way my bait cast rod is 7' and the spinning rod is 8'6".

Part of your fatigue might be the length of the rods you're using. Most of the time when I'm bass fishing I am going with 6' or 6'6" rods, unless I'm pitching and flipping, then I go with a 7' or 7'6" heavy rod. I don't use anything too expensive since most of my bass rods are in the $50 range and also because I don't bass fish nearly as much as I used to before moving so close to the ocean. In the $50 range I've found I like the Berkley and Cabela's bass rods. Although, I think you can pick up some of the newer Shimano rods with a lifetime warranty in that price range now too. If $$$ isn't an issue and you want to go for the bling factor, Kistler Helium rods are pretty nice.

I'm going with Jay on this one.  Yrs ago I got a 7' uglustik, (used a sspinning reel on it) tried it for bass and didn't like it!  It was too long, couldn't cast it accuratly.  I went to a shorter rod,6'6" (BPS whatever their brand   is, Quantium I think?)  same reel and been using it ever since.
My 7'er Uglystik now is reserved for my ocean trip with my Abu ambassedur attached to it.

FJ hit it on the head with another point too and that is you don't have to go expensive.  If you do it long enough, at some point you'll either break or lose a rod and hopefully not have both happen, unless it is to the same rod.

Light rods are great but Balance is the key some models have weight systems in the butte cap many of the BPS rods have it, you really shouldn't need the weights but if you are throwing diff baits with the same rod or switching reels you might. Light wt reels can make a big diff also. Falcon and All Star both make some nice rods that are very technique specific that are a good value for about $100. I have an All Star 6'6" that I like better than my 6"6" lamiglas at about 1/2 the cost. If you hold your rod where it's comfortable and you have to fight to keep the tip up or down it's going to tire you out. Most important is to fish more so you build up those muscles you fish with :smt002

Mooch and I saw them at the Boat Show I wasn't impressed but he thought they were novel so he bought one. Don't know if he has tried it or not.

Okuma made 5' kayak rods (pursuit) that were medium/hvy action. I purchased 2 of  them. Since I fish from a Hobie Sport, worrying about  clearing the bow wasn't much of a concern of mine. What I like that I could remove the reels and put these rods through my 8' center hatch. Also, landing a fish is easier in my opinion. I can reach the tip w/o sticking the reel into the water.

I saw them at the Cow Palace outdoor show a few years ago.  The salesman made a great pitch, in that the rods are extremely sensitive to vibration.  He had me hold it and then he placed it against his throat and talked normally, I could feel it in the handle, now I know fish don't talk, but the rod felt sensitive.  Thats about all I know about them.

Maybe that holding it against his throat was a gimmick.  Have you tried that same thing with other other rods?  Maybe it's nothing special to those rods.

That is actually a pretty common way to test a rod.
