I met up with Freddie and Melissa in San Rafael Sunday morning hoping the butts were still around.  We found a few.

I started out with an early bait stop in Oakland.  I threw my net at least a dozen times but bait was scarce.  I only came up with a dozen tiny jacksmelt for the 3 of us.  To conserve bait, I started out using a Zoom Fluke and almost immediately hook into a shorty by half an inch.

As the tide started moving back out, the bite picked up.  Melissa had two good hits which didn't stick.  I stuck one by the bridge that went almost 27".  Soon after that, I got a massive hit that went bendo big time and was burnin' drag.  It must have been the big one I was looking for, but when I went to get the rod out of holder it was gone.  A bit heartbroken, I went back and drifted the same area for a second chance.... and whamo... another hit.  I could tell it wasn't the same fish since it didn't pull half as hard.  It measured out at exactly 30".

Freddie also score a nice little butt too using a popsicle, but live bait was the ticket for the bigger ones.

Pic 1 -- The shorty on a 7" fluke.

Pic 2 -- Me struggling with the fish for a photo.

Pic 3 -- Finally getting them under control for a pic.  Thanks Melissa!!!

Pic 4 -- Our on the beach pose.

Nice pair of butts ChuckE.  Fish with teeth are scary.  I'll stick with bass.

Have a good one.

SQueeeeel..... Funny you mention that.  I was practicing at the Redwood Archery Range today sticking arrows in paper pigs, bears, bucks, rabbits, and other fantasy game on the course.  Lino "Tailwalk" was there too with a his very first compound bow which he bought this weekend.  He kicked ass for his first time on the range.  That dude is a natural.
