OK, sorry.....

After MBK, Frank and I headed south.  Mooch, after careful and agonizing deliberation decided to forego the party he had arranged for a co-worker and accompany us to Big Sur for an overnighter and some fishing in the morning.

We got down to kirk Creek and the host there was so nice, he suggested we "hold" the spot at Kirk, but check out Limekiln in case there was room there.  (We get a discount at LK.

Well. the sign said "campground full," but we persevered, and sure enough there was an open campsite!  "Check out campsite # 4 she says.

So we find #4, it is the absolute best spot at Limekiln!!!  Right on the beach!!!  OK...quick move of vehicles and we get set up.

Meanwhile, Mooch has fallen asleep on the picnic table at Kirk Creek.  He's not looking so good, maybe getting sick, but he managed to put together some beans and kielbasa that stuck to our ribs.  That, and the fried chicken and potato salad bought at the Carmel Safeway, and we were in hog heaven.

Especially with the view and thoughts of an easy launch in the morning.
Frank performed his famous "One Match" campfire, we all fended off the amorous advances from the hippie chick from campsite #1..(That's when we knew Mooch was really sick, and doubtful for the morning)

Morning came, grey, flat, and calm.  Launching was uneventful, and Frank and I paddled out to test some spots.

A very scenic paddle led us eventually to the bull kelp off Lucia, where we found the big reds.

A couple hours of non-stop catching, and we headed in with full stringers (photos provided).

In all, it was a momentous trip, however short. Plenty of camaraderie, and plenty of good fishing.

What a spot!!

Nice looking water.  That parking lot looked pretty packed, Where was everyone else, back up the creek some place?  Did Mooch return to normal?

Good choice practicing C&R on that hippie chick. I find that the flavor of the older ones can be a bit gamey.
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.
