Finished installing my ff and Batt box.  I saw this install on another site and gave it a try.  Glued foam to the bottom of box then glued the box to the bottom of my yak.. Foam blocks hold the batt nice and tight.  I tried the 8-aa,s, but ran out of juice.....I will try it on Fri..........

FF=Furuno 5" LS-4100 ( all that's left from my bro's boat from a DIVORCE)
Dry Box= underwater kinetics(Hook 1 part#169)
Battery= power sonic 7amp(Hook 1 part#133)

Nice, clean install.  Is that a Tarpon 120?

No, it's a tarpon 140 angler.  My next job is to figure out were to mount a rod holder.  I would like it to be close enough to grab in a hurry.  Any suggestion's?.  I used to mount that came with the boat for my ff.

I have a tarpon 120.  I put a small ram ball in the front of each footwell.  One for the GPS, one for the FF.  Both are actually in the footwell so, they don't stick up above the top of the boat.  That way, I can still push the boat upside down on my lumber rack.
I know ram makes a "grenade launcher" looking rod holder that might work in the footwell.  I'm sure there are a lot of guys using the 140 who have lots of good ideas out there.

Most of my rigging has been the result of the "Two beers, a dremel tool, and a Makita" thought process.

hoser:

After fishing out of my kayak for a few years without a fish finder, I am finally going to install one on my T140.   What type of wire seal did you use?  I  purchased a couple of them, but like the looks of the one you used.

Thanks,

Jason

Jason, I bought this one at Johnson and Hicks in Santa Cruz.  It has cutouts for two wires.  One for the transducer wire and one for the power wire.  I used marine goop to seal it.  I also used SS nylon lock nuts on the inside with a washer.  I think West Marine has all the stuff that you need.  I had extra stuff from my boat( sitting in the back yard) since I bought my yak... The mount is that quarter turn Scotty mount(can take it off for storage)  I will look at those tube type holders in my footwell.  thank you for the info.  JIM B....

Nicely done. That is the exact same thru-hull wire seal I used in my T140 too! I got mine at West Marine, and the brand name is Big Jon (I think).

for a foreward rodholder on my t140, i use a scotty t-bar on the factory mount. it turns 1 holder into 3. use the middle one for the ff. you can turn it slightly towards you for easy access without getting in the way of paddleing.

Nice to see a Furuno on a yak! I just picked up an ls6100 head unit for $50 for my Tarpon 140. I'm not sure which transducer I should get - wondering if you've successfully used a "shoot-thru" 'ducer and which one you used???

I'm looking for something that would work on the end of the SlideTrax Transducer Deployment Arm, which I think would accommodate a transom mount 'ducer, but all the Furuno/Airmar models look really big!

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
