Locals rejoiced when the kings of robinson creek returned to the place that none of us have ever lived but it still feels like home. This year we spent alot less time on the streams and focused more on the twins in hopes to nab some much needed AOTY points. After failing to take a good trout earlier this year, I was after a big brown and a kokanee that could be worth a few as well.
Ill still be hunting.
The water is warm and has the brown beasts hunkered deep and chasing the kokanee instead of hunting in the shallows. Alot of planter bows were taken on the twins and I was able to nab 1 kokanee that I dont think is legal to measure for AOTY. I think it needs to be 30cm.
Any help on this?
Of course we did take the time to stomp the robi for many wild brooks a few browns and some bigger bows that were better stronger faster than the lake dwellers.
These were good times but team bridgeport is still headed back in the fall to take care of unfinished business.

Hey Terry, what were the regs on the Kokanee at Twin Lakes?  I think they'll be considered trout to CDFG, but they are just landlocked sockeye salmon, so we count them as such for AOTY.  Anyway, I'm not aware of any size limits anywhere in California.

AOTY Rule #6. No out off season, oversize or undersize (fish larger than the legal limit or smaller then the legal limit per species) may be entered. All local water rules must be followed.

Awesome stuff - that second pic gives me goose bumps.  Ahhhh, the beauty!   :smt007

Great trout shots.  Is there a minimum size limit on the kokanee?  If not then your points should stand.

Thanks for the much-needed Sierra fix.   :smt001

Almost forgot, nice report and thanks for the pictures.  I used to do a lot of rockclimbing when I lived in San diego and miss that general area.

Ok im taking the points with plans to upgrade possibly in the central sierras at a few of my Dads haunts for a big bow and a bigger koke.
The first fish pic was nabbed by JShirk (azteckayak) who is well known for swimming in snow covered lakes of the high country and is seemingly impervious to cold. He got in and drifted into the hole this very nice brown was suspended in to get the shot.
The second brown was in a stream and struck at my red/gold t-bouyant. the hook did not penetrate flesh but the fish came out of the water then shot down next to the rock. I climbed onto a large rock that was next to the stream to get the shot. After striking and figuring out my devious plot the fish wasnt spooky at all.

No matter how good the fishing, the people are always better.  Along with Terry, J, Rob, Peggy and Greg, newbies to the group (Kenny and Steve) were great additions.  And the first progeny was added to the group.  8 year old Sydney showed herself a tough and low maintenance addition.  A 8-10 mile (I think) round trip hike to Barney Lake, kayaking and trapesing the Creek.  Not to mention all the gas that was flying at the campsite.  She was a stud.

T.  I'm down for the trip in Nov.

Good luck on counting the Kok.

Great pics, looks like you guys had a great trip.  What lures were you using in Twin Lakes?  Did you use a deep diver or pink lady while trolling?  Just wondering as I might be headed that way sometime late august/early sept.  JTF

It was the gold /red thomas bouyant that regularly fooled the planter bows and the occasional small brownie.
I tried crawlers behind flashers, rapalas in rainbow and brown flavors, and small swimbaits but none seduced a beast. The crawler flasher combo took victims but still only plants. We worked the edges of both lakes. We believe that we werent fishing deep enough and should have been using small kokanee imitators around 50 ft. We fished early and into the night hoping that they would move up but it just didnt happen.

Nice report, reminds me of when I was growing up in SoCal and we took vacations to the Eastern Sierras every year, places like Bishop (Sabrina, North and South lakes), Rock Creek lake, June lake loop.  Next summer my daughter will be 3 and I think its time to revisit.
