Hello,
Just wondering what people thought of Crescent city.  My wife is considering taking a nursing job there as we are desperate to move out of Bakersfield.  It seems like a great place to fish for me, since I'm an addict thats my main concern.  Thanks for any input.

From what I understand, there is not much in the way of employment up there, except for the prison,

so, if ya have a good job, your kinda in the drivers seat.

Like kayakjack said, any port in a storm to get out of Bakersfield....

and there is a Port in Cresent City,

Hit up "SwellRider", he will give you the scoop.....

Thanks a lot guys.  My wife and I hate Bakersfield.  It's like a vacuum here.  She's also applying in Portland i guess anything would be better.

Here's the scoop on Crescent City:  it's funky.  Humboldt is pretty far out in the sticks - Crescent City (Del Norte County) is WAY farther out in the sticks...  Before the prison they just had redneck and weird - now they have OTHER elements...  Sorry, folks who live up there, but it's just weird.  OK, here's the good part - the place is OFF THE CHARTS beautiful.  You've got the Smith River -world class by any means of measurement.  You've got tons of old growth redwoods and other forests - much of it publicly owned.  You've got the port with Pebble Beach Drive along the coast for a few miles north of port.  I've pulled big abs, caught fish from the rocks, and speared a lingcod in less than 10' of water off Pebble Beach Drive.  If it weren't so weird, with 10" more rain than even here, (did I mention it's weird?) I'd live there for sure.  Go for it!   :smt001

I concur with Abking:  Great scenery, great fishing, good surfing, but the place has a weirdness about it that's hard to define.  I think there's a Lake Earl on the north side that's supposed to be really good for cuts.

It's a small town so I'm not so sure I would like the weirdo factor.  Thanks.  I guess anything near fishing would get me excited.  The wife's also thinking about Portland OR.  I don't want to leave CA thought.  Thanks again for the responses.  Andres

Portland rocks, they have great and cheap mass trans system, great food at reasonable price,Great music, nice people, lots of out doors stuff to do, it does rain often in winter, but to me is an non factor. Beaverton 15 minutes from portland has everything you need!!  If i didnt have tons of roots in central valley,
I would move here in a second!!!!

My suggestion work in Crescent City, but live in Brookings, Oregon (the banana belt of Oregon) and no sales tax.  Smith, Chetco, Rogue, and Klamath Rivers all within an hour!  :smt007  Don't forget the big blue! :smt006

I used to live in Visalia, 30yrs of hot.  We used to say it's not hell but you can see it from here.  Moved to Wy and now I'm 80 miles below CC.  From what I've heard from friends, you will either love or hate working for Sutter, also depends on what your wifes nursing interests are?  Pick either destination, just do it.

Thanks Tim,  my wife took a job here, so I'll be here at least nine or ten months.  I just got back from taking my mother in law [she's here from Russia for a month] to the grand canyon.  I realized how important it is to get out of this place.  The air was so nice it was hard to come back.  My wife does labor and delivery and is working on her master on-line.  I hope to figure out where to move to in the next nine months.

Oklahoma by the sea.  Last year we had to review median family income for a bunch of fishing cities including Crescent City, its around 17K per FAMILY city wide!

Bitchen setting, good fishing, toothless retard populous.
