600+ acres, expected to grow to 1500 before containment.  Don't have a number of houses destroyed, news coverage is not very good.  My HAM radio has not been much help on details either.  The fire is burning slowly, (Thankfully, due to low winds) and it's burning towards the town of Bonnydoone.  Shelters have been set up in Felton, at a few places.  People with large animals have a place to take them, thats the Graham Hill fairgrounds, and the fairgrounds in Watsonville.
Staging is at the Bonnydoon Airport (My astronomy clubs observation site) Fire is burning about 1-2 miles south from Bonnydoone airport.

Sent Sean a PM, he is fine, thinks his house will be fine but does not know right now. He is heading to Socal today for a family vacation.

So alive and well, hopefully all fine.

Our house is in Ben Lomond up on a hill across Highway 9. Last night, from the deck off our living room, you could see massive amounts of smoke, my wife said it looked like the fire would cross over and down into the San Lorenzo Valley any time soon. This morning she called and said there was no more smoke, its burning northwest. SLV middle school is providing temporary shelter for those displaced.  I've lived in Ben Lomond for 30 years, this is the closest fire has come to our valley. We are opening our home to any families that are displaced. My wife is calling all our friends in the current fire areas to offer our home for them to stay, get a hot meal and real beds to sleep in..

I'm stuck at our plant in North Carolina until Saturday, wish I could do more to help....

Rich

Thanks for the concern all. NCKA is awesome!
We got out with most of the important stuff. Amazing what you can do in 15 minutes. I hope to get back today for 1 more shot at gathering a few things, but if not...
I had plans to visit family over the weekend anyway, so this evening we're just moving our departure time up by a day & heading down south.

I hope Rocketman & Slomo are all right, they are fellow 'dooners & live not too far from us.

Funny thing, in the crazed tossing-of-all-things-important-into-the-truck for some reason I grabbed my plano box with most of my essential yakfishing tackle, ff, etc. in it. Why I thought that should take the same importance as clothes & photos & insurance docs, I don't know. Must be "the madness" :smt005 !

It sounds like the fire is moving southwest. The line is being held at ice cream grade, and the goal is to keep it north of martin rd, then attack the perimeter. Hopefully the weather will assist & the winds will stay low. The humidity should rise in a few days, which will help too.

Dooners...PM if I can be of any help.  Have PU with racks if needed.

my sister was up there last night helping evacuate horses and goats (animal type with big trailer)

amazing when you have to evacuate, the things you find important.  Its usually memories and comfort, not necessarily the high dollar stuff.  So Sean, what the plano box means is that you find solace in the items in that box.  Thats not madness, its affection!

Well, we made it back in for one more load. Got a few irreplaceable things and....

Got my artwork!
Got 2 of the yaks!
Plus my giganto bag of ocean clothes, fins, helmets, etc., and 2 RF setups.

Some folks value jewelry, I was scared for my 20yr collection of neoprene & rotomolded plastic, and planks of wood with fish painted on 'em.

Now we're out of here for a few days.
Good thoughts to all, hopefully Steve & Walker will chime in to reassure us they are OK.

Calfire is holding nothing back up there & the governator just gave the order for a couple of huge suppression planes, so maybe it will be ok in a few days.

Peace to all, and I'll see you on the other side of this.

:smt006 Gosh guys I hope everyone's okay.  I have a good friend, career fireman, fighting down their.
I have nuthin' but the greatest respect for those folks, of course, but when neighbors help neighbors...Priceless.

This sure looks like a bad Summer for fires. Up here in Mendocino we had very little April rain.  Not good.  Bark beetles killing the Bishop Pines.  Yikes.

Working at Van Damme, I gotta watch those campfires like a hawk.  I'm going to train in a little "preventative fire drill" tomorrow.

Take care of each other everyone!
