Easy post for me...got to Stillwater around 7am, headed out to meet a bunch of nice NCKA guys, caught NADA (not even a bite, believe it or don't), broke the tip off my Lami on a weak snag, and did I mention, caught nothing?  :smt012  Fished NW of the MPLA, inside the cove...nuthin.  I won't say that the swells were humongous, but I did suddenly remember that I had an unwatched episode of "Deadliest Catch" on the DVR...  The wind sucked too.  But on the good side, I met a BUNCH of the NCKA guys!  :smt003  Thanks for the beer, and we'll get them next time!

Others actually caught a fish or two, but I'll let them post.

Way to give them hell Usagi!  Bummer on the rod breaking - nothing like a little salt in the wounds.  That's ok, it all evens out in the end.  That is, unless you were already ahead. :smt002   :smt003

Slowest day of rockfishing ever! The ocean was very lumpy. It surprised me. Paddling back with a trailing sea was fun, kinda like kayak surfing. I only caught one fish, an 18 inch verm, on a 2oz white spro bucktail jig. I had beenusing big lures all morning and finally went light with the bucktail and wham. First drop, got the verm. Second drop got snagged and broke. Ehhhhh, it was that kind of day. Other lures tried include: 3-5oz leadhead w/kalins scampi, kalins magumbo grub, fish trap. And various irons like megabait, kroc, diamond bar. Sometimes w/a shrimpfly above, sometimes solo. Always tipped w/squid.

On the bright side, we fully represented NCKA with like 8 members! The BBQ was great. Big thanks to FishMaster, Monster Guppy, and Alshobie for the grub. We also grilled up my verm and it was delicious.

No pics for me. I forgot batteries. D'OH!

Agreed on the slow fishing.  This was my first skunk on the yak, now I 've been skunked fishin' pretty much everyway.  This was also my first ever dunk on a yak.  It was the maiden voyage for my new Prowler 13.  After getting some sunscreen from Stoggie (thanks  :smt004), I realized I picked up his jig on my stern.  I didn't take my time turning around on to unhook it, and I started to get squirrely.  Just then a swell/ wave came up and helped me finish the job.  I made a pretty quick recovery, and was back on my way.  Donated a gaff and rod/ reel.  I was totally lucky to only lose that, as nothing was tied down!  I'm sure there is a reason I have all of those leases etc. in my garage :smt005  Lessons learned:  1)  Always take your time when moving around on the deck 2) Always tie everything down.  3) Practice recovery, pratice really works.  This was my fisrt BBQ with you guys, and it was really a great time.  Apparently I bought a defective 12 pack o' Corna's, as the top of the bottle was coming off of a few when we poped 'em open (Stoggie, how's the finger?).  I wish I coulda stayed longer.  Next time!

It was really fun meeting everyone and I had a great time!  Take care and see ya next time!

Jeff

Tough day of fishing, but it's cool to hear that the NCKA hookup overshadowed the slow bite.  If you're only going to catch one it might as well be an 18" verm - nice, PK!   :smt001  The topless Corona's sound scary - I'm picturing a bloody-fingered yakman pouring the now sharp-topped full beer down his throat from above, no contact needed.   :smt003

broke the tip off my Lami on a weak snag,

Hey - if you need, you could send the lami rod and broken tip in for repair. Lami is super good on honoring the warranty. I had a broken rod repaired by them w/o charge in 2006. Of course, mailing postage is yours.

Who hoo!

what a rodeo out there

stoked for fish made an awesome recovery after our mishap.
probably wouldn't have happened at all if had the clicker on my reel.
Jeff apparently got hooked on my lure as we were passing the sun screen around. We then preceeded to try to catch up with everyone and he was taking my line without me knowing it. I had the drag very loose and it just kept peeling. By the time we noticed Jeff was sideways against 8' swells and over he went.

sorry Jeff, my bad.

I was impressed with the recovery effort, but another time that tie downs and bungies would have been helpful.

Proceeded to fish some more, Alshobie caught a nice ling and the verm by  sincoast was a beauty.

My accident was alcohol related, cheap ass  glass on the corona bottle, two broken tops and a bloody gash in my finger that was still bleeding when I got home and removed the bandage. Probably needs stitches, but na, we don't need no stinking stitches.

Great experience out there, fishing was slow, but I liked playing in the rough seas and the experience with that type of water may be a life saver in the future, you never know when it will get rough. It's kinda tough to get used to a new fishfinder when you're getting bucked around. I did like the quality of the Cuda 250, but need to get a 12v system set up this week. Power only lasted 3 hours and the connecter to the ff was in need of repair already (the receptors for the plug was violated and couldn't get a good solid plug in. I will need to rig a quick connect for the wiring, so I don't have to worry about those little pins getting bent.

The BBQ by Monster Guppy and Fishmaster1 was awesome and Alshobbie's marinated tri tip was melt in your mouth.

great fun, but gotta git this skunk off soon.

let's see some of the video and pics fishmaster1, should be a good show.

can't wait to get out there again

Wow guess I should bring some frozen fish this sunday just in case. I think the rockfish are sometimes less active on windy swelly days. Something I have not understood when fishing deeper than 50 FOW. sorry about the lost tackle. Unfortunately been there and done that. Hope it lays down soon. Between the MLPA's. salmon, drought, gas prices and now wind, might as well take up golf.  :smt005

Recently bought a driving net to put in my backyard for that very reason!

Way to give it a go guys. The same thing happened to me on the opener. Skunkorama!  :smt013 :smt011
I wonder if the upwelling is keeping the fish further out?

Whew...  Sorry guys, yesterday took the life out of me!  Probably the lack of sleep, and drinking under the sun  :smt004  Crashed hard after I got home around 3:30, woke up at 9PM and tried to get the report going, to only fall back asleep after uploading pics.

This time, instead of a lengthy report, i'm just going to post the video and a few pics.  Sorry, but work is taking its toll on me right now  :smt013  I will say that for being from SJ, I made it there a good 45 Mins before the locals! :smt005 and had a great time fishing/BBQ'ing with everyone yesterday!

OK, I'm having a hard time not typing out an explitive!!   :smt003  F&$^ing A$$, Al, you're on your way, my Man!  I loved your video and great pics too.  Your boat is looking like a fish-killing machine!  That thing gets up and goes with the peddle-power - I thought you put it in fast-motion for a minute!  That was some bumpy-ass water out there.  Great group shots.  The capper:  way to get the ling in the shot!   :smt001

alshobieoutback, thanks for the video and report

the water was a lot rougher than that video showed, you must have taken it earlier in the morning, maybe I just remember it being rougher.

update on the bottle incident

Just got back from the docs office.
my finger still hadn't stopped bleeding after 24 hours, so a visit was necessary.

friggin bottle took a lot of flesh, so much that they couldn't even stitch it together, the hole was about the size of a quarter taking all the skin and a good portion of muscle from knuckle to knuckle.
the hole it left will be there from now on.

They put a piece of biodegradable foam on the hole to allow it to heal without sticking to the bandage. the doc said that in a few weeks the foam will help new skin grow back and eventually fall off leaving a repair.

weird for sure

anyway there is no pain, never has been since the accident, except when i removed the bandage this morning, and that hurt like hell because the bandage filled in the hole and it took more skin when i took it off.

back on the water this weekend for sure.
