Met Chuck at Berkeley at 7AM and headed over to the bait guy. Bought a huge scoop of chovies for $15 which Chuck and I split. Headed out under light winds trooching live chovies. Dave was already out there and had already bagged a 29" hen. Chuck bagged a 24" hali about a mile out and another on the hail Mary troll. Wind picked up by 11AM with white caps by noon.

Well I will be the first to admit that I have very little skill or luck fishing the bay and today was no different. The 3rd skunk this year for me on the bay, but if you don't get out there you are never going to get better.  :smt005

The funny moment was on the way back was turning around to see Dave pumping gallons of water out of his hull and thinking Duane must have missed one of the leaks.  :smt044

Nice going guys. Got hung up today so I was hoping you guys were doing well. Hey Scott, I know Duane's skills and the leaking Kayak may be some left over residue from the last Elk tournament and the Anchovy spiked drink :smt044

Nicely done on the hali's Chuck and Dave, and way to post up the victory shots, Scott - your hali day will come.   :smt001

Nice to see some people get to go fishin instead of wishin.

No doubt! Working from 3:00PM 'til 2:00AM 6 days a week is getting super old, super fast, and is killing my fishing time...not to mention my love life.

Uhhh...yeah...nice outing fellas!

Scott, I'm curious as to know how many anchovies you get in a scoop. How are you transporting them? Not all in a bait tube?

Dustin - I am working all weekend so decided to take a day off to fish so I wouldn't go through withdrawl on my business trip. Usually only fish on Saturdays.Hope to see you out there soon.

Howard - 1/2 scoop was $15 and I would guess 50-100 chovies. Enough for 5 guys or more to fish for a day. We must have had at least 50 left over. Chuck took them hhome to brine and freeze. I was going to take some home to cook for dinner but Chuck said they were too fishy.  :smt005

Thanks for the encouragement guys, I know my time will come. Until then, it is fun to hang out with friends, meet new people, fish new places and take pictures of everybody else catching fish. :smt044

Way to get after them, I'm hoping to get out there soon.  Maybe sunday.

Howard, my estimates on a 1/2 scoop of anchovies would be 150 morsels.  The bait guy is pretty cool with us yakkers out there, he himself is an avid float tube guy.

Well... I was wrong about the bay mudding up with the big tide.  The clarity was better than expected and wind stayed down most of the morning.  It was nice out there.

Scott, thanks for taking pics.  It's rare that I forget my camera, and as luck would have it, that's when I needed it.  Don't give up on the bay.  You're do to catch a nice butt.

Hojo, the bait guy loaded us with sooooo many nice chovies --- well over 100 (probably closer to 150 like JTF estimated).  They freeze up nicely in a heavy brine and hold up better than most tray baits.

This is what I use for brining herring.

I'd guess 'chovies wouldn't be much different.
