Hi all Saturday LK fishers and others.  I have a large private camp site reserved for both Friday and Saturday night in the main Big Sur area (about 45 minutes or so from LK to the north).  This is private site for tent camping and includes flush toilets and a kitchen sink.  I normally populate this site with family freinds and their kids but most have backed out this year and we have lots of available space.  We can accomodate up to 40.  I will be driving down to LK form there leaving around 6 AM.  The site is owned by a church so we must be respectful and they do not allow hard liquor.  We emphasize the family nature of this event and usually have more kids than adults.  The kids love to play in the river and float between the two beaches at the site.

If anyone is interested in joining us, please PM me with your phone and e-mail and I can communicate with you (read this "screen for yeahoos") and send you the directions.  This is really a mellow family time.  If you are looking for a kegger please do not bother.

For first timers to LK...

It is a 2+ mile paddle one way so you may want to bring some extra water since it may be hot.

The shore break is tricky so be prepared to go swimming.

We will be fishing in 90-125 FOW and the bottom is not too catchy. Pretty much everything works but the suspended olives and blues can make it difficult to make it to the bottom so you may want to bring something heavier than 2 oz. Alot of people use big swimbaits and I like to use iron since I don't lose too many and I like verticle jigging. Of course squid is good and I will have a couple of pounds with me. There are some really big lings there so plan accordingly. :smt003

Thanks for the heads up. The heavy gear is already packed along with extra water. I also packed an extra paddle just in case.

Unless your going to continue on to fish SWS or monterey, you can leave your kelp anchor at home.

I fished iron all day. 6 oz megabait in mack pattern tipped with squid.

Just fixed the power cable on my fishfinder. The plugs were all corroded out and I attached a new pair.

Good luck to you guys!
Hard to pass on another LK excursion, but..... We are entered in the kinetic sculpture race up in Eureka next weekend and MUST get our "sculpture" finished and in racing form this weekend. Finished off the last of what fish was in the freezer last week so it is certainly time to CATCH FISH!!!

I would be prepared for excessive heat & sun if you can believe it.  It's unusually hot down here, yesterday I cooked on the water & it's very hot right now.

If there's no wind it could be a scorcher out there.

Word...I'm stuck teaching today, and tomorrow is our annual karate tournament so I'll be busy running that all morning.  I got excited for a couple of days there...well, mixed emotions, really.  Pre-registration is super low due to the economy, and until Wednesday I was telling myself "Screw it...eat the cost of the awards, cancel the tourney and GO FISHING!"  But then I got another 20 registration forms in and started feeling guilty, so even though it'll be my smallest tournament in 20 years I'm gonna go with it, for the sake of the students if nothing else.  I hope they appreciate this!  :smt009

Good luck out there, guys.
