Im camping with a few friends fri/sat in space #123. Taking the mini-X to play in some waves if the conditions are good.  Also trying to rally a few other boaters or atleast borrow the surf yaks I sold them that are now just garage art. If weather is good its a great place to practice surf entry/exit and catch a few rides as well.
Bill,
bring out that new tandem. Ill ride in the back.

Right backatcha raidernation!
I hope to come home exhausted from waves/wipeouts to learn that you caught your AOTY bucketmouth and it was bigger than mine.
Ill work hard for good documentation and try to put you on a wave. I can trust you will do the same with a bass or 2.
Greg,
hope you guys can make it back out. Its definatly more fun with more boats and the old boaters that are now breeders are tough to count on these days.

  Saturday 0900 launch.
Meeting at #123, cant miss my truck/boats. Ill have the mini-x and the T160.
Just got word that the super fun Islander "hula" and rider will be there and Ill give a 50/50 on the frenzy/rider making an appearance. The more boats to try the better. Will also have a photo girl for documentation until she gets too cold. Lets just hope friendly waves show up.

Sorry I missed you out there. Had a great time surfing the waves with my Kaos yak. My first time trying it. Handled the waves pretty good. I caught a buncha great rides and flipped a few times. Got better at handling the surf zone for sure. I'm definetly going to hit it some more. Have fun,.

Jonesz, really wish I could have been out there earlier and had the chance to paddle with you and get in a few rides on the Kaos before I make that purchase. Im going to try to get out atleast once a month and Im hoping more regulars will join in.
Saturdays conditions were nice but the waves were small, until we got in the water. It seemed that the waves realized that we were there to play and they wanted to join in.
It was just myself and a old friend/crafty waverider Kenny and we took down the Mini-X and the Hula. With the waves being so small I contemplated not wearing helmets, but I had brought the retro style WW hats that are more akin to roller derby helmets than WW safety gear and are just too much fun not to wear. And a good thing.
First wave was a ripe one, picked my line, then tried to pull out the cam for Adams promised wave and slide the paddle into the wave face at the same time. I then realized that this is harder than I thought and got stacked. Took the mini-X right on the melon POW! and clearly would have ruined my day and may have flayed open some flesh in the salt. The hit also broke open the housing on the "H2O proof" disposable cam and ruined it.
Kenny was on fire. I sold him that Hula boat but he was showing me how to ride it. Got educated just watching.
We caught alot of waves/wipeouts and fatigue was becoming a factor until Otobepelagic showed up with a Hobie sans pedals.
Reinspired, we paddled out with Allen to hopefully put him on a few good rides. He was a quick learner and had some educational wipeouts. After a few rides a fat one rose up and Allen was on it. He charged down the face like a champ until the wave collapsed and he disappeared into the WW. But Allen managed his brace and came out on the otherside still up and in his boat. There was much rejoicing!...until.....
I had allowed myself to be distracted by Allens ride too long. I saw it coming on the edge of my vision but it had already stacked up over my head and was starting to curl. then KABOOM! and I received my complimentary sinus power washing and a healthier dose of wisdom.
We continued to ride/wipeout until it was clear that Kenny and I were physically done and needed to call it a day. Im still sore from some of the shots taken but ready to head back out soon.
The big props go to Allen who had to courage to take off those pedals and paddle like a kayaker. He will be prepared when the "situation" comes looking for him.

Pictures to follow. They werent taken on my cam and are way to big to post here. Im hoping to have them down sized and posted tonight.

It all started +20 years ago, after a long day of rock fishing out of Fort Ross on my 14' dive board. Conditions had changed rapidly and my re-entry was one I will never forget. Short story.....I ended up "pearling" end over end off of an +8' breaking surf. That one landing has been in the back of my mind on every landing since!
My plan  from the get-go........show up late hoping the boys would be a little too exhausted to put me through too much of a drill. This was not the case, Terry with all his infinite patience coached me on the basics and set me off on a wave. The first attempt was (in my mind) a success surfing almost all the way to the beach, a quick turn just in time to see Terry get pummeled due to my distraction.    It was all down hill from there! As with attempting anything new, a lot of stuff is going through your mind in a hurry and one missed step.....recovery is next to impossible. I understand how it is SUPPOSED to be done but it will take lots more practice. I plan on attending as many surf boot camps as possible in the future as soon as I can get all the sand out of virtually every orifice.

Thanks again Terry and Kenny for your expertise.
