If the weather is decent, I'm looking to go to Doran Park on 3/8.
It's a fun little beach to try your surfing techniques on.  There is a large breakwater and a half-moon shaped beach, so you can find whatever size wave you're comfortable with.  We were out there las month and had a blast.

Hope to see ya there.

Hey Greg,
You going to bring family and do some camping at the camp ground? My wife and I would like to get our 5th wheel out and do some camping. Just wanted to know if you are doing the same.  :smt006

Unfortunately, no we're not camping.  But, if you're there camping be sure to say hi.  We may throw some hotdogs on a grill and have a couple of beers after.  My son and a friend of mine will be out there also.  My wife will be out of town on Saturday.  Kinda works out though, because if she's gone, I don't spend any WAF points.  My wive likes to kayak, but she doesn't like the waves.  So, we spend time together yakking down the Russian River and around Tomales in the summer.

We are going io do our best to make this event. I could use a few lessons from those in the know. For twenty five years plus I have just been "dealing with it" and have had some crazy landings, especially on my flat bottom dive board. I hope some one can bring helmets.

Greg,
I'm gonna try to make it.  What time do you think you will be heading out there?

Time wise..... It looks like high tide will be at about 11:15.  So, We'll get there about 10:00ish.  The last time we were there we got some pretty strange waves at low tide.  I'm not sure if it was just bottom contour or what.  One of the guys that was with us did a pretty good wipe-out at almost low tide.
We are just going out there for fun.  The waves are (usually) calm enough to play in without any rocks, kelp, etc.  Most times there are kids boogie boarding, couples walking on the beach, etc.
It would be great if one of our resident surf experts showed up to teach us a few things.  But, if they don't.......Maybe practicing falling off our yaks, in 3 feet of water, will be helpful some day.

I would suggest a helmet, if you have one.  Not that you are going to hit the beach real hard, but when I get sideways to the wave, I usually get rolled towards the beach.  That means you are down range of the tumbling kayak.  The yak is about 60 pounds. If you are fishing and take a tumble in the surf, it's usually only once (twice).  If you are intentionally trying to surf for a couple of hours, there's more of a chance of taking a hit.

I have had to make some adjustments in my priorities and it looks like I will be unable to attend.
Still possible but things look grim for my day in the waves. Still want to go this month if possible and ill post a hook up. Hope the waves are ripe and shapely for you guys.

Doesnt look like ill be on C-lake either except maybe a quick evening run if the conditions are perfect.
I need another day added to the week. Who do I write a letter to about that?

Terry,
Sorry you won't be able to make it on Friday.  Last month was a blast, and it looks like the weather is going to cooperate Friday as well.  Who knows what the waves will be like?
I'll probably still be able to make it later in the month also.  My nephews will be out then and would love to see Uncle Greg wipe out in the surf.  I might try to get them a couple of boogie boards.  Then, when their mom isn't looking, they can practice their own wipe outs.

I have to leave town again this weekend, but are you talking about Friday (3/7)?
If so, I might stop by & say "hi" on my lunch break or something...
Oh yeah, & the lab has public tours on Friday 2-4pm, so if you've never been then you should check out our Rockfish fish tank.
here is the link to the lab...

You're right, my bad.  Saturday the 8th is the day we will be there.  I work strange shifts and sometimes get brain dead.
