Let me start by saying it was a beautiful day at the park.  The sun was shining, no wind to speak of and just enough surf to make it fun.

Hydrospider showed with his Tarpon 160 and an awesome Mini-x.  My son, Derek, and I brought out a Tarpon 120 and a Scrambler XT.  Matt, a friend of mine, had a Cobra Fish & Dive.

As Derek and I were loading our yaks, we saw a truck haeding down the block with a Tarpon on top and a Mini in the back.  It turns out that H.S. has friends that live down the street and that he was actually our neighbor for about six years without us having met.

We had a great time at the park and found out just how small the world really is.

It was agreed that surfing the boats was something we needed to do more often.  It would have been a good time to grill some dogs, B.S. about the wipeouts, and meet some other NCKAers.

I got a few pictures from my digital.

Pic #1 is The Spider showing us how it's done. Smooth all the way to the beach.
Pic #2 is Matt trying to punch a Fish & Dive through the wave. :headbang: It didn't work out too well.
Pic #3 is Derek riding the wave and making me :duckie:. Thats the actual picture, no telephoto lens.

Yep D, that was me.  everybody swims
I had a amazing day at doran on the mini-X.  A really fantastic ride in waves and we caught alot.
conditions were perfect and a great crew.
Caught one really good wave where the mini-X was riding high in the face, just on the edge of that feeling that the bottom is going to drop out from underneath you. The mini-X held strong until the wave crumbled. I ended up with permagrin for the rest of the day.
Got to witness and experience some fantastic and educational wipe outs today. Thanks guys.
I had to relearn a lesson that life has tried to teach me many times.
NEVER go back for " just one more wave".
We had a great time and fatigue was setting in. everyone else called it a day and was loading up gear.  I had just picked up a "new" t160 and wanted to test it out and get some time on it.
There was a good set coming in so I rushed out to get "just one more wave".
The T160 wasnt rigged for the leg straps (yet) so I was sloppy in the boat.  I tried to come into the wave at an angle because the longboat would pearl if I just rode straight into the transition.
I then learned that the T160 has a big party butt and mr wave got a big handfull of it.
Tried to brace into the wave as it crashed down on me, then the boat was gone and I got the rinse cycle. Time to go home!  but with a huge smile, new friends, and another reminder to recognize when the day is done.
I used a disposable today and should have pictures in a few days.
goodtimes

Boogie boarding looks like a lot of fun.

These are some of the shots I nabbed at Doran. I cant think of a better way to get an aquatic education than spending a day playing in waves. Its tragic ,and really kind of scary, that more anglers on kayaks dont "do their time" with paddle in hand and pole in the garage.
Besides, my face is still tired from the perma-grin.

OMG that looks like so much fun.  From the sunshine and beautiful conditions, you'd think that was La Jolla shores!  way to go, and great pics.

GREAT pics you guys. Glad no one was seriously injured.
Practice makes perfect. I have been hammered enough to have the wipe out perfected.
One good lesson I learned is when I come up after a yard sale I try to keep my arms in front of my head until I see all is clear. You never know what that wave is going to throw your way.
I will bring a cheapo back-up paddle when the opportunity for that kind of practice comes up. No need to risk the good one.

Smart tactic Tote,
When we first got on the water and the first good wave came through, 3 of us jumped on it. Yes, there was a collision followed by much rejoicing. No one was hurt but there was alot of plastic tumbling in the surf.
Ssgbart caught me when I was being complacent and sans helmet (sorry mom). Not my usual practice, but even with the helm in place, it doesnt protect "the face" and my already battered and broken teeth/ porcelain replacements.
Here is a picture for Mom with a helmet. Nice artsy picture on a very humble wave.
