Lots of taps, them a classic pump, swing, load, and the fight was on... turned out to be sooooo close, less than an inch, so he was released unharmed after a little footsie...

A bunch of stripers by a few, I think mine was the only yak-sturg of the day... and yup, the weather was unbeatable.

Once again... weather couldn't have been better... but the fishing could have.

I had about half a dozen stripers, all dinks except one about 26 inches.  No dino love for me.

Rory also caught a shaker dino later in the tide.

Roll Call went something like this,  Guitarzan,  KZReelRods,  Gabriel,  FisHunter,  Rory,  Ahoy,  Repoman,               HOLY TOLEDO,and I. Absolutely beautiful conditions on the water all day. Ahoy caught a small striper right off the bat and that probably explained  quite a few nibbles for me but no pumps.  We'll get them next time!

Yes it was a "BEAUTIFUL" day with the weather and all.  8) I did pretty good. Caught a small striper (about 16 inches) a small dino (about 36 inches) :smt044 :smt044  Instead of my name on the board being "Rory" I should chanr my name to "Under Sized"  :dink: One thing I did learn about was the "MUD"  :smt012 And thanks KZ for letting me use your cart to get my yak in. Note to self: "Get a wheel cart"
On another note, below is the new version of "Kayak Mud Races" Not sure "Who" was the winner, bet they got muddy!!

Some pics...

Rory and I took "the path less traveled" and I think it made a difference.  Walking out along the very edge of the rocks on the north side of the cove was a breeze compared to doing the full-on "turtle" right up the middle.  Attach a rope to the front of the  yak and you can just sort of pull it in the mud next to the rocks.

Where'd the strugeon go?  Word is that they have bailed to feast on some herring spawns in the central bay.  Seems right... when the herring spawns are going it always seems to be slow in San Pablo.  Then, afterward, the fish move back up and the action gets really good.  We'll hope that's the case.

Are you aloud to fish the herring spawn?  I mean, it seems that if you know the general area of where they spawn, you might be "In Like Flynn!"  Just remember this is coming from somebody who has fished for sturgeon about a half dozen times and NEVER from a yak.

Most of the spawns are going on inside the closed zone right now. THere was a nice one going on just S of the 101 Richardson bay bridge yesterday evening (we were on our way to sushi at Sushi Gourmet where i need direct deposit).
It was bottom of the tide, and the birds were going nutso...

I fished a few spawns off TI and its crazy everybody shows up fish, seals, gulls, commies and sporties going crazy. One time the water was pretty clear and you could see dinos working the pilings sucking off roe. Didn't catch anything during the spawn but did pretty well after it was over as long as you had herring or it's roe for bait nothing else worked. There was a huge spawn at Hunter's Point a few years (15)ago and the fish hung out for two days it was amazing probably 50 boats fishing it and it was constant hook ups. We were anchored along side the Buchie B they had about 20 people aboard and had fish on constantly they had boat limits for 2 days on the third day there were more boats and I didn't see a fish caught. You have to watch out for the commies big boats with nets not a good place to be in a kayak.
