the girlfriend is due to deliver my first child in 4 days.
the state is giving me a 7 week break from work. I see a yak trip in my near future.

LOL!
Thats the exact same thing I said last June. Good luck with THAT!
I ain't no Nostradamus...but I foresee your WAF acct dipping into the red if you try to go fishing while on Paternity Leave!
However, if you DO try to go fishing while on Leave, do not use the excuse, "But its a baby. Its not like he's going anywhere; he'll be here when I get home." That was one of the only times I regretting going fishing.
CONGRATS again, Joey!

Now, about this measuring device. When/how do we get ours? Are they going to be mailed, sent by carrier-pigeon, or do we have to pick them up? I don't need it right meow...just curious.
I actually have a great little device called a "yard stick." I cut it to 28 inches so it fits in the (flat) footwell of my T140. Unfortunately, I haven't got to use it yet! But it should work great. Just a suggestion to those AOTY participants numbered 46 and up.

Pat,

We already agreed to each get two days away out of the 7weeks we are off. If she thinks I am going to babysit while she runs/trail hikes... well then, we compromise. I get to yak 2 days.

But you have a point. It isn't like I can yajk with her in the back-pack carrier.

I can't wait to buy her a life vest for all our fishing trips. Man, let the baby madness begin!

Your comment brings back memories, congrats in advance!!!

June 1, 1984 my son was born, 8 weeks later he went on his first week-long waterski/camping trip at lake Don Pedro.

His pediatrician thought it was a great idea. As long as we were safety minded. IE sun-block, hat, no hot rodding the boat with the kid on board, etc,

My mom (grandma) went ballistic, (old school thinking)

To get to the point, I bought the smallest vest I could find then cut and stitched it until he had his own little custom fit vest (with crotch strap)

He spent most of the week bobbing around in the lake, laughed and giggled for the entire week,

So, kids are more robust than allot of people think, (gotta use common sense tho) may not be as long as you imagine before you look for that vest.

I have an original Hawg Trough that I “floaterized” by putting down a bead of silicon calk to fill the gaps on the bottom.  The silicone also helps to “de-sliperize” the bottom so it doesn’t slide off the yak as easy.

Grammar Police,

I have a doggie life vest you can use.  It even has a handle on the back so you can carry her around. :smt044
