Cool thread.  I always loved the Big Blue, haven't seen it in ages so I put it on the netflix.  Love Jims list.  Braveheart is the best.  I wanted to name any male kids Hamish...Leah was STRONGLY opposed.  Once Jelly saw Braveheart he was pissed not to be named Hamish!

Big Blue was recomended to me by a customer last month. I went to the video store to rent it only to see most of the shelves bare.
WTF?? They said they were abandoning a sinking ship. Netflix and B-Buster did them in.
They were selling everything so I ended up with 7 dvd's for under $20 but am so sorry to see them go.
Hopefully I can find someone to burn me a copy as I don't watch enough movies to justify a monthly fee.

I liked the Rocketeer" a lot;

especially when the rocket went crazy and he shot all over the place.

Today I'm going to try to sail a modified Hobie Sport.

Wish me some luck, please.

I understand sailing in theory but this is the first time.

This was a great book also. I have not seen the movie yet, so I don't know what is included in it but a little side story. I think it was about ten years ago while working a boat show I met the old man that befriended McCandless. He walked into our booth and we started talking about kayaks and many other things including Alaska. Then he mentioned the book, which I had just finished reading, and told me he was the guy from the book and the story behind it. We spent about an hour just talking I don't remember the name now, but I remember the man.

Mooch,
Great list  :thumleft:
but i got to know?
"Sixteen Candles"  :dontknow: :clue?

How dare you question "Sixteen Candles".....from this movie came the best geeks ever assembled:

Long Duck Dong
Anthony Michael Hall (head of the geeks)
John Cusak and his other geek bro (forgot his name)
...and many others

 :smt002

Jim, you are corrrect....Brave Heart and Shawshank Redemtion deserves credit as well  :smt045

Geeky then, yes. Not now. Nowadays he has to furrow his eyebrows to bring on a migraine in order to solve the mystery plot of the week.

Mooch, you ever watch The Silent One?

I'll add 'Brazil' and 'delicatessen' for something different.

I also thought 'the chronicles of riddick' was a heck of a lot better than it got credit for.

As far as family friendly movies, my highest suggestions are 'Secondhand Lions', 'Big Fish', and 'Roan Inish'.  The last one has particular appeal to kayakers I think.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.
