I was jogging by Lake Mendocino General Store this morning at 5:15 am and saw all the lights on and a truck backed up to the front doors. You remember this store, right? The one where you bought the minnows to catch your Lake Mendo striper.

Well, as I jogged by, I could see that the entire store was cleaned out. It looks like they are out of business. This means no more easy hook-ups at Mendo.

When I find out more info about the store I'll pass it on.

CHEERS!

Guess that's what happens when you don't open till 8 or 9.  The curse of NCKA strikes again.  Won't have to hold the end of the year festivities there, as I know some would have liked.

I shouldn't sound so bitter since I've never done business with them but I know they frustrated many fellow kayak fishers.

That's too bad to hear. Never like to see a small mom and pop store go under. I believe the last time I was there, they hooked Chucke and I with some quality BAM winning minnows. Oh well, looks like we'll have to get them somewhere else now...

The store has great potential, but the current/past owners knew nothing about fishing, which is a bad thing when trying to run a bait shop.  Hopefully someone that knows what they are doing will buy it.

Is that the only bait shop in the area? Most on the list of bait & tackle shops that I posted feature more tackle than bait, and very little live bait at that.

That is the only source of minnows around.

boy, If I had the money I'd turn that place into an 80's rollerskating disco kareoke bar... :kick...and all of Ukiah will celebrate good times  :headbang:

..seriously, that place would be a gold mine...imagine turning that store that into a Fishing and Hunting "Home Depot" :smt007

Build it and they will come  :smt002

Wow that is a bummer! Where the heck can you get minnows now? Hopefully someone takes it over that knows what they are doing.

Do minnows not do well during a long drive if the water is aerated? Just considering the worst case scenario.

You can get minnows at the bait shop in Petaluma on Bodega Ave.  Their jumbo minnows work fine, but they still aren't as "jumbo" as those at the Mendo store.

You can also just make a Mendo fishing date with Hydrospider (Terry) and talk him into bringing some minnows from his Lake County connect!

If anyone wants Hydrospider's contact info, send me one time fee of $10.00 and I will give you his cell phone number :smt002 :smt003

Why don't we just get Jelly to have some in some garbage cans out back?  Make him earn his keep Sean.
