In the water @9:oo(pic1)     marking the type of ARCHs that mean only ONE THING (pic2) .... on the anchor, grass-shrimp on the hooks and 6oz.of lead kept it in place all day. Had NO BITES?!  :smt012 untill the OUT-FLOW began. Started getting tippity-tap-hits and then got a GOOD PUMP!, set the hook, felt a POP!   reeled in to find my braided 40lb line severed above the leader line, WTF?!!
.....marked LOTS of BIG ARCHs in the 30-35fow, along the edges, but none that were willing to eat my shrimp. I kept moving, insearch of.......but could only manage this 21"striper.

the wind stayed down, just like the forcasted "calmness by 12:oo"  i stayed til 3:30pm, the current picked-up along with the wind, but both were manageable.

i think the wind is forcasted to stay down this week and maybe..............?

the weather site I use is....lookatthatflagonthehill.com  :smt005  listen to NOAA on weather radio(day/nite before)...then on the morning of.
That Fairfield / Rio Vista area is allways windy and it was forcasted to slow after 12:oo noon(they were right for a change!)

was 0 fer 3 on attempts the last two wk.ends(forcasted windy and it WAS!) but I still had to go see for myself and worth the 3/4hr drive to see BROWN CAPS at 9:oo!!

...the "FHSS"(fishunter-signatureshot) should be used/practiced in special situations only (this being NOT one of them!)  :smt013

Nice job Adam.
I got to a point just before Dixon and was exhausted. Thought a short power nap was all I needed. An HOUR later it was all I could do to wake myself. The wind was howling, moving metal signs like they were nothing and the flags in the area were straight out. That is when I decided to pull the plug. I had to be off the water around noon anyway.
Glad to see you at least got out there.
If I was feeling better I might have pressed on. Been fighting the bug and it has my energy level pretty low.
Always next time.

they're in there! just not bitting yet.  I had the opposite conditions last week, locally it was calm and nice.....got up there and the flags and trees were CRANKIN!  had to do it three times, just to be sure i wasn't mistaken. :smt012

Adam -

as always nice report and pictures. I use a bimini - albright connection for spectra to mono. The bimini doubles the spectra and makes for a stronger connection. Spectra glue also helps.

One of the nice features of Montezuma Slough is it's narrow with tule banks that provide some shelter from winds.

Hey Fishhunter,
A little tip for ya. I noticed your pic of your rod, you had it in the rod holder. I haven't fished for sturgies for quite some time, but one thing I never did was put my rod in a holder like that. Sturgies can be quite shy with the bite, and the slightest pull will make em drop your bait. I used to use a "rod cradle" I built for strugeon fishing. It holds your rod upright, (reel up) and you can lift your rod with out moving your line. You can also strike right from the cradle on those one pump hits. By the time you wrestle that rod out of the rod holder, many of em will be long gone... I'd even opt to rest my rod on top of the rod holder so I could lift it straight up, before putting it in. You NEED to set the hook and set it hard with the sturgies. Also with spectra line I always use a swivel between the mono and spectra. For sturgies you need a steel leader to reduce the chance of the diamonds on their sides cutting your line. They also have a habbit of rolling on your line, which also can lead to line cuts from the diamonds. The season's just getting started, so I'm sure there will be plenty of future opportunities. Keep at it. I'm sure there's a sled ride in your future... :smt002
