Adam -

as always nice report and pictures. I use a bimini - albright connection for spectra to mono. The bimini doubles the spectra and makes for a stronger connection. Spectra glue also helps.

One of the nice features of Montezuma Slough is it's narrow with tule banks that provide some shelter from winds.

Adam, nice report and pics.  Looked like a nice day to fall for yak napping.

Hey Fishhunter,
A little tip for ya. I noticed your pic of your rod, you had it in the rod holder. I haven't fished for sturgies for quite some time, but one thing I never did was put my rod in a holder like that. Sturgies can be quite shy with the bite, and the slightest pull will make em drop your bait. I used to use a "rod cradle"

Scott~ i forget the name of the knot, but it is recomended by *powerpro that you DOUBLE the line when tying it (light braid, not needed)
*i tye my mainline(40lb.braid) to the standard STEEL LEADER. (but heard from the pro's to use 50lb. mono instead) it dosen't kink or coil when stressed/streatched.

Chuck~ i could've nodded out, but shot straight-up, remembering Tin/VWtech, relaxing in the warmth of the sun, while drifting at ARW last spring and falling into the water after he fadded and slumped over.     :cold

jonesz~ the rod will be "cradled" in my arm at all times durring bait soaking periods, I promise!  :salut:

One thing you don't want after staring down your rod tip all day is to miss the one and only pulldown. If you get a nice pulldown, don't wait for the second one. It may never come. Always, ALWAYS, hit em while the tip is going down, if you miss the pulldown, better to wait for the next one, than hit when it's coming back up. I've also had several "non traditional" takes that looked more like a bullhead, stike, only to have the rod bend in half... :smt003 Good luck brudda!!! I figure trying to land a biggun is going to be like wrestling an aligator from a kayak... :smt005

I personally don't think the knot recommendations from PowerPro are the best you can do, IMO. The Bimini or spider hitch doubles the line without losing any of the breaking strength. The Bimini is not as hard as it looks and practicing knots is one of the things I do over the holidays. On the water I do use a double uni because it is easier to tie. You often only get one or 2 shots at a trophy fish, you want to go with the best knots available. I have an article on the best spectra - mono knots. PM me if you would like to read it.

TRU'DAT!  i've done all three scenarios that you mentioned, starting from the "tiny peck" to the "ONE-PUMP-HEART-BUSTER"  resulting in "HOLDING IT" and as soon as i feel some pull? IPULLBACK!!

i have tried to pull "my" knot loose and COULD NOT!!  I have switched to the uni-to-uni (braid-to-mono) on my ocean/RF set-ups already.  i'll check those knots out in "the post your going to put it in"  that's IMPORTANT and SUPER-USEFUL info man!  thanks in advance Scott! :smt004
