I'm a bass fisherman.  I 300 yard spool goes a long time.

my new salt reel, I think I need 400+ yards.  hahaha....I got a 600 yard spool and will put the rest onto a bass reel.    dang that is a long string!!

I went with Daiwa X-Braid X8 Jigman stuff.  about 50% of the price of the fancy pants stuff.    wow..Nomad line was double!!! so was some Varias stuff, but they both are thinner.  whatever.

I think the Daiwa X-braid is pretty good myself. I have 3 or 4 reels in braid and have never changed it out in 4 or 5 years. I'm not sure but I think I'm running 30 and 40 lbs. I use Madeline Albright knots or Alberto (not sure) for the fluorocarbon top shot. They are not pretty and sometimes catch in the guides but have never failed me, even on that 100 lb Thresher. I should probably add glue to the knot to make it smoother.

I never heard of X-Braid until today. Looks a bit pricey. I've been using J-Braid for a long time. Now I use cheaper braided line.

How's the color retention on it? I've got 10 year old Spectra on my saltwater reels and I've always had issues with color ending up on my fingers. I recently tried Sufix 832 and that seems similar to the Spectra. They're not bad in terms of line strength, knots, or such - the color bleed is just annoying.

no clue.  I'll find out.  my friends said his maiden voyage with JB Line One has been stellar across the board.  he said the color is robust.

I use Sufix 832, and I always thought it was fancy pants stuff, but it looks like it's the same price as what you got. Now I'm going to have to find something fancier...
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Take a look at KastKing Mega 8 or Max-thin 8. Four years ago while Salmon fishing at Klamath, I got spooled and forgot to bring extra braid. A buddy of mine had a giant spool of  Mega 8. Loaded some up, thinking this will get me through the day till I can go find some Power Pro. Never ended up changing it. I'm sold. Super smooth, great abrasion resistance and very good color retention and the price is right. I have it on most of my rods now.

nothing wrong with power pro either.

but I have a bug up my butt to try this slow pitch jig thing.  I know I won't be as deep as the people in FL,,but everyone tells me to target the thinnest line available.  thin thin.

Nomad makes one and so do Vavias.  like really thin.  their 30 is like our 20 thick.  but big money.

I compromised.  thin..not thin-thin.

this next season, I also want to cast to them..hahah..cast to the rocks I avoid.  see what happens

Kevin.

In similar vein, the Piscifun braid is actually pretty solid too, for an inexpensive option. I ordered some a few years ago to pair with some reels I ordered direct from their site (using Moo's discount code too!), and I was pretty impressed with just how tough this stuff is. It does fade after a while, but that serves me as a good wear indicator, letting me know it's time to pull a little off the reel anyway. I've never broken the Piscifun braid on the water.

This is a pretty cool site https://linelaboratory.com/braid-summary/

Very cool - I'm gonna submit some samples to see how the Piscifun Onyx stacks up to others. I have leftovers in 8, 10, 20, and maybe 30 or 40lb (if I can find them, haha).

My last couple braid purchases were also in the cheap category. Angry Fish brand from eBay. Never had a problem with any braid. My mono leaders use line that will break before the braid mainline does.
