Since we didn't have much fishable for a while, I decided to go out again.  The ocean was much calmer than yesterday, but anticipating a strong wind in the late morning.  Went out to where I had much luck yesterday, my first drop, I got 24" ling and let it go based on yesterday's hot ling bite.  Got some
rockfish, but it was slow until I found a hot spot.  I got 22" vermillion and several large black rockfish (my wife's favorite).  It was still early, and I started searching for lings.  Got one 28" blue ling but could not locate the second one.  The wind started blowing and wrapped by 11:30 AM.

What a great session. It’s amazing how incredibly blown out and windy it was in Marin, but not in Mendo. I would have thought all of the coast was blown out, but then again, I’m not a very good thinker ;-)

How do you target Ling differently than rockfish? Use a bigger bait?

very nice yield for such effort.  the early season sessions hit different and are like scratching a bug bite after avoiding it for as long as possible.   How about a fish on a dish pic for us working shmoes who haven’t gotten our fix yet?

Yes, typically I use big switbait, whole squid, or herring for lings.
Since I am retired, I can go on any days my wife allows.

I am just happy to be able to go out and get my exercise, it is great for my weight control.
I will wait to cook them until my wife returns from her trip to South Korea in two weeks.  Most of the rockfish have been cleaned, salted, and are drying.
My next target day is Wednesday.
