Its Jeff's last wknd of fishing before he moves to San Diego so I'm waiting to hear from him. If we're game for Stillwater, we will meet you there, on the water. Because I know we ain't gonna be there before 7:30am!
Might even launch at CRSB and paddle upwind to Stillwater, then drift back at the end of the day.

Sac Yak and SinCoast!
 I wanna go...
But it would mean disdaining the muddy banks of Del Valle, the muddy campground and the mudfish !
Mooch is there now all by himself preparing for our invasion!

My wife asked how we can go in the rain?
We all wear wetsuits anyway , I said....
"And after? Do all you kayak people just sit in your cars and talk thru the window.?"

Rain should be done by tonight and fishing in the rain is OK in a wet suit as long as the fishing is good.  Muddy Del Val vs. Stillwater?  I will let you choose but I know where we will be.

PK, that is a fairly long paddle.  I can never make it that far without stopping if I have a rod on board  :smt003 .  That is why I chose Stillwater.

I am new to NCKA. Would like to join.
Few questions:
1. Do I have to wear wetsuit?
2. What kind of bait do you use? Live, artificial?
3. Most importantly, where is the launch place? I live in silicon valley.

Thanks,
John

Hi john.  No one says you have to wear a wet suit but is is recommended when paddling in the cold waters of the pacific around here. Just in case and in the interest of comfort I always do but a dry suit or a few good layers or wool with spray pants and jacket or waders will also serve the same purpose.  We are thinking comfort and safety both.

As for bait, frozen squid or sardines or anchovies if you want to use bait.  Often irons and soft swim baits are enough but a little squid goes a long way to make a chunk of metal more appealing on a slow day.  If you show up and do no have what you need, I can spot you a few lours and or squid to get you going.  Live bait with a sabiki is an option but more of a pain to deal with in my opinion.

As for directions, it is at the Pebble Beach Tennis and Swim Club in Pebble Beach.  Here are some instructions

1. I have been wearing my waders instead of a wetsuit lately. A wetsuit is necessary at rough beach launches though. Stillwater is NOT a rough beach launch so I will be wearing my waders again. I have gone out in just board shorts and spray jacket plenty of times but it was sunny hot and mellow swell.
2. I always bring some frozen squid. Sardines or anchovies also work well. But you can catch plenty of fish on just lures too.
3. See sackyaks link to direx.

I'm still split....Stillwater on Saturday OR Limekiln on Sunday...ehhhhk.

still trying to sort out the family obligations this weekend but will hopefully be out there.  You planning on heading north or south once outside?

Johlee, on the westsuit, I would highly recommend it.  Its the unplanned dunking that the wetsuit is for.  Murphy being who he is will have you the farthest away, against the wind, when you dump it and paddling wet in the cold wind could quickly chill you.  Unless of course like me you have taken a hint from the whales and seals and padded with an insulating layer of blubber :fat
