Dude, it was her brother taking the picture.  I don't want to hear any excuses.  You should be all amped up with confidence after hauling in that beautiful salmon.

I think someone from the Alaska board at Jim's site caught a 40 pounder...I'll look it up.

I stand corrected: see report below:

Posted: Thu Aug 26, 2004 6:07 pm    Post subject: Summer Report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well its been a crazy summer up here for better and for worse. Here's the summary-

Weather- Its been way too hot and sunny. Yeah that's right too sunny. The water has almost reached 70 degrees! Sure swimming has been nice but its driven the salmon deep and they're more tight lipped. There's been so little rain that some of the streams are non-existent and the salmon have nowhere to go. They're bunched up at the mouth wondering where to go. That's a serious problem.

The Fishing- Its been up and down this year. We've had to search a lot more than usual to find the fish. The sonar is critical right now and we've done more paddling than normal. There's still lots of good salmon to be had and right now its Coho time. We're getting them in the 15 pound range which are great fighters. They're just about all big jumpers. On bass rods they're a riot.

Big Fish- I don't have as much to report in this area as I would like! I've hardly been out for myself since I'm always fishing with clients. My biggest halibut came in at 73#, and my buddy got one in the same spot at 70#. Another friend got a 46# King. All of these were from kayaks on light tackle, but all were early in the summer. A 323# halibut came in about 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure if the lady who caught it or the halibut weighed more, and there is no way she pulled that fish into her skiff. A real fishy story, but I did see the fish in person and it was a beast to say the least. You'd be in serious trouble if you got that thing next to a kayak. Maybe someday I'll get that challenge...

Business has been great but I'm actually ready for winter break to get my head back on straight. Its cruise ship madness here with about 3 weeks to go. It'll be nice to see the town get back to 'normal', whatever that is.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Josh - didn't you catch a 30 pounder? I saw it in your pics. When and where was that brute caught? Mooching or trolling?
