Short version because I'm late for a party.

Joel:  1 HOG (27lbs and change) and 1 shaker (released)
Fred:  Landed 7 Fish (including a couple shakers) and 5 missed hits.
Stuart:  Landed 3, farmed 1 at the boat and 4 or 5 missed hits.

We fished early where Joel landed this MONSTER salmon and fred had one by 6:30 AM.  It was pretty slow for a while and Fred and I lost Joel.

Then at 10AM, it went nuts.  The next hr and a half was wide open until we ran out of bait.  90 feet down on the mooch in 200-175ft of water off Pajaro.  We were just north of the yellow can.  Numbers around the vicinity were 50/51, but we were a little north of that spot (shut off the GPS).  Although we were done, it was a blast with Catch and Release salmon.   Too bad we ran out of bait :smt009

My camera died, so we went to Bayside to take picts.  Their camera was full, so some tuorists took picts and promised to email to Joel.  We hope to have picts soon.

My 2 keepers went 17lbs 13 oz and 14lbs and ?change.  Fred's were both 13 and change.

Joel gets big fish honors, but missed out on an incredible bite.

Go now if you can.  Its smoking hot!!!!

Stuart

Great Job.  Joel reclaims his title as master salmon slayer!

Now lets go get them!

DANG!!!  Congrats you guys...

And as luck would have it I have to go to Minnesota for a week for vacation... well... more of a visit than a vacation I guess.

I should have plenty of WAF built up by the time I come back though...

I too am drooling for pics... 27 lbs is a dandy... might just take the pot.

You guys outfished a couple party boats today!!!

Right on, wish I could get out there tomorrow, but no can do. Looks like next weekend is the soonest for me.  the fgamily is camping at Angel Island wed and Thurs.  But, guess what, I'm paddling over with a rod or two....heee heeeehee.

Man it wounds like the total kayak angler fantasy today, and it couldn't happen to a better trio!

I'm waiting for the picts too.  I really hope those folks don't lose Joel's email address because it was FREAKIN HUGE!!

For the "big" fish derby, I noticed there is about a 1/4 lb variance between bayside's scale and Joel's digital scale.  No big deal (I hope).

We started paddling at 4:35 am and commercial boat traffic was heavy.  Most were headed to the Soquel hole as we slowly peeled off to the right.
Water conditions were surprisingly really, really good and it held all the way through our paddle in.  (When we weighed our fish at Bayside, it was blowin pretty good there.)

The commercial guys and a scattered fleet were all on the outside, with a small group of boats with us by the yellow bouy.
As soon as it turned on, more and more party boats showed up.  Between Fred and I, I don't think we went 5 minutes without a hit or fish on during that feeding frenzy.

One of the day's highlights was watching Joel shake and quiver like freezing eskimo from the excitement.  After about 10 minutes of watching and waiting during the battle, I yelled "SEA LION" for kicks.   :smt005   PRICELESS!!!!!

Joel, Congrats on that whopper.... but you need to be spanked for not having your own camera after all of this time.   :smt018

Stu, Freddie... way to go!.... on finding the hot bite.  I'm gonna try to hit it midweek.
