I'm kinda late to this thread but I just have to say, "Retirement is AWESOME!"   I know it doesn't hurt that we escaped LA and moved to Humboldt to retire.

That said, all the financial advice folks provided previously are important considerations and work does often provide fulfillment that goes beyond the financial compensation part.

For me it's a no brainer.  I ain't going back.  I love this.  :smt006

I planned on being retired this month. About 5 months ago they started recruiting for my position, and I noticed the new salary being offered was $20,000 more than my current wage. The higher wage plus not being sure what I would do, as I can only fish, and forage mushrooms a limited amount. I submitted a cover letter, resume, and went through the interview process. I placed first, was offered my job, and accepted. My new target retirement date is now July1, 2026. During that time I need to figure out some more things to do.

What? its ridiculous, that means you are undervalued by your boss. Can claim some money back for your over contribution previously?

My grandfather was a Texas Aggie. He used to send me Aggie wear all the time. My cousin also went there.

Retired in June 2022. Even with our last few years of ridiculous inflation I am content in our lifestyle and do not want to go back… not even consulting. I have relandscaped front and most of the backyard, caught up on most honey to dos, opened a space in a antique mall (picking and up cycling was fun… but now I am bored with that), work in a couple wineries tasting rooms (great meeting people, tips can be good and fringe benefits are wonderful 🍷 (worked in the tasting rooms way too many days a week… now a day or two a week), travel, fish (trying to do more long range trips), taken up truck camping to extend fishing trips, visit family more…. Once again, not looking back… I just did not want my last day on this planet to be in my office. Bottom line, enjoy whatever you do… life is short enough.

I got my terminal degree from Texas Tech. I didn’t realize there were so many Aggies on this site… I guess it could be worse—there could be a bunch of UT grads…
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
