I am seriously thinking about going back to work after 2 and a half years of retirement.   Has anyone here done that any doesn't mind fo share his/her experience?

I have been retired for a little over 2 years as well, but have not considered going back. Perhaps some volunteer work, but not back to the grind. You must have had a different experience to be thinking this.

I have been enjoying my retirement so far but with the inflation and insurance costs going up, I don't think my savings will "stretch" long enough into the retirement future!  Just happens that my old company KLA wants to rehire me that made me seriously think about it.

Sonny, if you're collecting social security, you will loose a good chunk of it once you exceed your annual limit.

https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/planner/whileworking.html#:~:text=If%20you%20are%20under%20full,earn%20above%20a%20different%20limit.

If you are under full retirement age for the entire year, we deduct $1 from your benefit payments for every $2 you earn above the annual limit. For 2024, that limit is $22,320. In the year you reach full retirement age, we deduct $1 in benefits for every $3 you earn above a different limit.

Good points that Spiffy made on the negotiables. Argh, health care costs, it’s stupid!

The SSA limits are a real limiter.

Thanks for the info Dan.  I have been doing lots of research on this and believe the "suspended" income from. SSI during unretirement will be added back when I finally retire again for good.

This message pour me a box of cold water, i am eagerly waiting for my retire after kids graduate from college. Making lots of exciting dream after retirement. But from what you real retire experience, I am scared i can be retired on time, my 401k and savings are all very limited, and nowadays cannot have much expectations for kids support old dad even this is Asia culture……

Suddenly feel my future is dim. Maybe i need to migrate to Indonesian for retire life meanwhile still can fishing on ocean?

Btw, we are all from semiconductor industry

Lots of places with ocean fishing opportunities are relatively cheap places to retire. I've been researching Portugal. I just need to figure out how to get my AI there without breaking the bank...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Sonny, a couple of suggestions.
1. Work with a Financial Advisor to give you guidance on your 401k, investments and cash accounts. A skilled FA will help you plan your finances both before and after retirement. I am working with one from Wells Fargo, he was also my deceased Mom's Financial Advisor.
2. If you don't have one yet, set up a living trust. This is typically done with an estate planning attorney. If something happens to you properties, bank accounts etc wont go into probate which can be messy and expensive.

I took a quick research, this is interesting to me, maybe we can be neighbor there after retire? When will you plan retire? I plan at 2030

“from the US?
You need to apply for residency in order to retire in Portugal as an American. The process is straightforward, but it may take a while. You need to provide (1) your passport, (2) proof of income, (3) proof of health insurance, (4) criminal background check, in order to apply.Jul 9, 2024”

Does Portugal Have Free Public Healthcare? Yes, Portugal does have state-provided healthcare, which is free for all citizens and legal residents in Portugal.”

Dam! I’ve been retired since June 2022 and never even crossed my mind about S.S. Benefits because I’m only 59. I don’t even know where to start? But all I know I’ll never work for the Mann again🙂
