Anyone have a recommended lake front rental home or cabin?  Looking to go WFH somewhere in July, with my feet in the water ...

No personal knowledge of the lodge, but have heard it’s nice and I like that area and the little lake, I've shore fished and kayak fished with mixed results - The Lodge at Blue Lakes which is on Highway 20 between Ukiah and Clear Lake: https://thelodgeatbluelakes.com/

Juan (Mako1) could prolly give advice on fishing there.

GIANT bass in there.  apparently the lodges pay for small trout to be stocked for the kids.  and the bass grub them.

Lakeview terrace resort and RV @ lewiston lake. As for WFH, can't speak for wifi, the cell isn't great out there (AT&T/verizon). Isn't quite lakeside but it's very close, few minute walk at most. One of my favorite kayak trout holes. I haven't stayed there but eyed the amenities many times and seems cozy.

Many fishermen spend their lives chasing fish, only to realize that it was themselves that they were chasing.

The "Salty" in my handle refers to my attitude, not the waters I fish

Hey Thanks ST, Lakeview looks cool.  Its a helluva long drive from San Jose, but keeping it in mind for another time

Hey Martin, you ever been to Naci? This place is cool. This property is for sale too…

No!  I should've looked there, but was so focused on mendocino and lake county.  Will check out Naci next time, those look really cool

Poll Question:

With only one dinner night out to plan for, would you choose Ledford House in Albion or Cafe Beaujolais in Mendo Village?

If you need cell service I would suggest discovery bay. Get an Airbnb that has a dock that goes outside to the delta

Poll response:
Both are well regarded. I think I’d go with Mendo Village and Cafe B because of all the other opportunities there. Wine tasting, shops, scotch bar (Dick’s), village walk, stairs to the beach.

Dinner Lake on the south shore has always been great and peaceful to me. Used to catch tons of trout and Donner but not so much anymore.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Ended up going to Mendo and staying only on the coast, instead of reverting inland.  It'd been many years since me or my family had visited Mendo.  Was really fulfilling to return.

Stayed at the Dream Weaver house in Manchester, then Coast Guard House at Point Arena for two nights each.  Both homes were kind of remote, set off some distance from respectable chow.  Dream Weaver was ultra modern with mostly high end appointments, while CGH belied a historically interesting home overlooking Point Arena Cove.  Both were good value.

Cafe Beaujolais was as good as advertised, and a really pleasant surprise of a high end meal.  I was not expecting summer corn soup, sauteed black cod, and homemade carrot cake ice cream to blow me away, but wow, color me satisfied.

Glass Beach must be experienced in order to understand.  Fort Bragg Municipal Code 9.68.030(Q) prohibits the removal of beach glass, and signs to that effect abound.  But if you believe Capt. Cass who runs the Seaglass Museum, it is perfectly lawful to take, and the above Code conflicts with the public's right of enjoyment of public trust coastal land.

Skunk Train was alright, but largely an overpriced tourist trap.

Kayak'd and SUP'd Albion River.  The rental tandems and singles from the campground were available for a decent all day, but the seats and paddles were pretty ragged.  Despite that the paddling experience was pretty awesome - my family really enjoyed exploring up river.  Scenery and experience available other than in a tide-influenced coastal river, flanked by sheer mtn and redwood forest on either side.  Made for stunning scenery and humbling natural immersion.
