Sorry Adam... it taped out at just over 38". So, I guess the day wasn't a total loss... never thought a devil fish would be my saving grace.
That's ok Freddie....now i know what it feels like to be KNOCKED DOWN from the podium. :smt010  ...like pure SHIT!  :smt003

......hoped for some AOTY upgrades, but only it turned out to be a GREAT DAY(hookie) and my last chance to get out, w/o having to drive 2+hrs.  Too nice to be pissed and hittin it wit da'fellas is what I'm in this THIZZLE FO'.

I used a 6oz.-lrg.RtBeer scampie tipped w/octo. and kept it low to the rocks for zilcho. Then switched to a 3oz.-sm.wht.scampie tipped, dropped it down to fool a 20"Cab. that fought like a BIG LING!...i like the way they HIT IT and then TUG IT DOWN as you TUG UP!
Nice to finsh the season on local grounds with ONE GOOD FIGHT and to fish with GOOD PEEPS!, like always, making me feel safe, warm&fuzzy!

Nice to meet you bajareefer(cool last half of name) did you get some stickers? way to get the "varity-pack" on your first trip.

I have fished in the presence of greatness...way to go Freddie!
Very slow out there for me, I caught one nice cabbie similar to Adam's on my first drop of the day, but released it thinking "yeah the bite is on & the day is gonna be fishy!" Well, that one cab was it for me for the rest of the day :smt012. I used all colors of lures, iron & swimbaits, even the deadly halibut hoochie with no love at all. Still, the day began with a fantastic moonset, included easy launch & recovery, fishing with friends, and even a humpback whale. I drive away from Bean fishless, but secure that my priorities are straight for the last RF trip N of Pigeon :smt001.
Wait, what's this about Sunday?  :smt003

Hey!
The reefer part of Bajareefer comes from collecting reef fishes in the aquarium trade for 20 years, mostly in Baja!
Also from collecting, importing and keeping reef animals for aquariums.
Reefs...as in coral reef.
One who does this may be referred to as a reefer.
What other kind of reefer is there?
Did the name perhaps jar memories of some of you "dead heads" and Buffet fans out there?
 Steve
PS. And when I explain it everyones thinkin...yeah sure....
[And how would one survive as a pothead in Mexico anyway?]

I had a full freezer after this trip .
I used shrimp flies and a leadhead jig tipped with some coveted octopus.
And they all love octopus!

Right on Freddie Savage!  It sure looks to me like your 4 year halibut drought is officially over after catching that hog as your 2nd legal butt in a less than a month.  Now your stylin' with the biggest butt on the board.  Congrats!

Didn't you say that Frank got an OTW pic of you?  If so, I wanna see it.

Nice work on that hoggish halibut.
We fished up the strip at Davenport and I saw your fleet on the water on the way back. A good showing at the Bean!
Davey was slow, partially due to our extremely late start and my lack of preparation. Glad somebody hooked up.

Maybe someone can help shed some light on this subject, but I've been hearing for a while now that it is best to not fish during a full moon-due to the fact the fish are more actively feeding at night since they can see better? I don't have any factual information to back this up, but I fished MBK with Frank on monday and it was pretty much the same result except for a few Canary's that were nice and string of sandabs. In past times I have experienced the same lack of activity during and after a full moon and swore I was not going to fish at these times again...just couldn't help myself again :smt075    Mike

I now think there's some truth on this 'full moon' effect on fishing after experiencing a very slooooooow fishing at BH sometime ago---w/c someone had mentioned due to full moon.  This 'angling' thing is getting complex to newb like me; now I even have to check the 'moon' prediction before going rf angling.  I found the below site helpful:

Another great showing by the "beaner crew" LOL! Thanks for the great reports and pics guys. Keep em coming…it’s the only thing I have to look forward to at work today! NotLOL.

And good to see FisHunter finally lipping them cabs. You just gotta be assertive with em, like bass, keep a firm grip and don't let em chomp down…or they will clamp down lockjaw style and thrash around until you've got major bass thumb.

Thanks guys!
