Welcome to NCKA.

Call the USCG Sector SF Command Center at (415) 399-7300.  They should be able to help with getting your info to the owner.  Additionally, call the CA State Park Ranger for that area at (650) 726-8819.

Welcome to the forum hope you stay after you find the kayak owner. How badly damaged was the kayak? Was it leaking? Could you see where the shark bit it?

I had e-mail Stan Kopacz of Parks.ca.gov since he was the one the news network interviewed of this incident at the location and no reply. I also e-mail two reporters that posted the incident and two TV stations who reported the incident and non shows interest to reply.

As for the bite, it is clear. The IDD is about 50mm with the bite diameter about 13 inches. Would be great if some expert can estimate the size of the shark. Info on estimate appears to be unclear doing the online search. Was able to find info of the IDD and said it is a great white.

Anyway, hope someone in this forum knows the person that was attack and have contact info.

Hi LittleNellie,

I would be great if you can give us a background about yourself and do an introduction. I am curious where and how you found the kayak?

Welcome to ncka!

I am a boat fisherman, found the kayak afloat while fishing around FP on 24th. As we already heard of the shark attack, we recovered the kayak and started to notify news channel and Parks ranger of the recovery in hope of returning this to the owner.

Since there is no respond from either, I sign on to this group in hope someone know the person.

Hope this help..

Thanks for the details and thanks for putting the effort in to find the owner.

I'm no expert, but based on formulas in one publication that relate bite width to total length the length is between 9 and 13'.

Do you have any photographs of the bite damage to the kayak?

Does anyone know the contact info of the prof. at UC Santa Cruz that researches these things?  Seems like another good place to contact.

Welcome and thank you!

A friend of a friend is a marine biologist station in Moss Landing and I pass her the info already and unable to make guess. If someone has contact info of UCSC, let me know.

Yes, I have photo of the bite mark which I will share after the rightful owner ID the kayak. For now, the IDD (distance between two teeth) is about 50mm and the bite width (diameter) is about 13".

thanks
