Stillwater Carmel, Sunday 9/23

Headed to Stillwater this morning with a buddy, after having promised my friend that I'd cook him fish tacos tonight.  Conditions were nice most of the day...flat water with an occasional rolling swell, no wind to speak of.  Better than that rain we had yesterday, that's for sure.    Fishing was slow but constant, at least for me.  My buddy only caught one copper early on, then managed to lose two Megabait lures with nothing else to show for it.  I caught a couple of gophers early and tossed them back, expecting (hoping) for bigger and better things.  Two hours later I decided that I'd better start keeping the "okay"-sized ones, or risk endless torment for showing up for dinner empty-handed.  I kept the next two gophers I caught, both fat but only about 11-12 inches.  Then I got a nice hit, and pulled up a fat...canary  = which of course went back (pretty fish tho!).  Caught another 3-4 small browns/gophers C&R before deciding to drift my Megabait over an open area in the kelp.  30 seconds later I get a big hit - a just-legal cab joins the dinner menu.  Paddled back and drifted the same spot again and got a 20" underling.  Moved back towards the mouth of the cove, stopping here and there to drop in.  Ended up with one more nice black to top off the fish taco supply, then paddled in.  Yes, paddled...the darn kelp is THICK - no way I could use my Mirage drive.  No traffic on the drive home, and dinner was delicious.  All is well in the world. 

Saw three other yak-fishermen out there today...any NCKA'ers?

Very good info.

I see a lot of kayak anglers in Monterey and Carmel that are not NCKAers. I approached a few random kayak anglers once and asked if they're members but they said that they don't participate because people are "blowing up their spots" by posting stuff on the net. Thats when I realized they were probably talking about me and I was like "OK later guys. Good luck."  Anyway, thats a different topic.

Sin Coast, kind of wierd about people freaking about spots.  Armed with Google earth, the coastal project pics, a chart and a tank of gas anyone can figure out where the good spots are.

Great job Usagi. You really got back at all those fishless and traffic packed days. WTG!! Sounds like you had constant action and came out looking like a champ. Can't beat that!!

Totally! a 6 YO could figure it all out.
I think the haters just have no idea of how to use a computer.
