Anybody here surfed Big Sur or the central coast?

We’re heading south to San Diego and taking our time going the coast route to hit a few surf spots along the way

Been out at Sand Dollar a dozen or more times and watched Willow Creek many times as well (was either too big to go solo or wasn't working) but haven't surfed it. San Dollar has some of the clearest water I've ever surfed. Both are easy to access from 1. Camping at Kirk Creek or Plaskett (right across the street from Sand Dollar).

I was also just down at San Simeon and Cambria in February and those had some ok setups for surf. Sorry no secret breaks from me. I've looked down at F****ers but never made the hike down the cliff. I've heard there's a warm reception waiting for out-of-towners at the bottom. Enjoy the trip!

Cheers,
Brad

Ooh - forgot about Andrew Molera as well. It can be fun, cobble bottom river mouth break but is a hike out to it. But across from the roadside parking and on the east side of 1 is a dirt access road that you can drive up a little ways to get a look at conditions before making the hike out.

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks we’ll try to check those out

Looks like beach access at Molera is closed still for storm damage repair

For your birdwatching pleasure - I understand it prefers a south swell but works other times. There's a pullout/overlook on the north side where you can get eyes on it. the break is right below you.

I got Molera perfect waves one time, kinda like rights and lefts at the Ranch.  Just me solo on my 9' Noe.  Never saw it look that good before or since, and the trek was brutal.

Highway 1 thru the south coast is closed anyways. Just take the 101 and cut across on the 46, then surf that stretch btwn San Simeon & Pismo.

If you jump in the water and swim across the harbor at Morro Bay, then hike across that beach to the next jetty, the other side has some big peaky barrels if you get it good.  Hazards at Montana De Oro is a hectic ledgy barrel.  Spyglass and the pier in Pismo.  Trestles in San Onofre, cause if youÂ’re down there you should.  So many more places, plus all the other suggestions.

Tragically Big Sur is hermetically sealed from the outside world right now. Google maps doesn’t seem to know it yet and we tried from both sides

The rock at Morro bay was ok, trestles was small and over-packed so we went to Huntington which was fun then moved on down here

Too bad about Big Sur looks like the spot to be this week for bigger surf. Don’t know how the locals get by
