So current reports look good for Alameda for halibut, I have not gone fishing there before, planning on going out this weekend. I would appreciate any tips on where to go, depth and so forth. Anyway the basics are good, it'll be low tide in early AM. I'm assuming it is best to go with the tide, so maybe go south with the incoming tide and then north with the outgoing tide. I believe I've heard it best to stay within 10 to 20 foot depth. Thanks for any help, much appreciated gentlemen fishermen.

Hey essrigr,

Most of the area we normally fish is 8-12’ deep. There are a few holes that can go a little over 20’. The hole Mr. X was fishing along the edge of is around 22’ deep. If you go straight out it will get deeper the further you go.

It is a slight minus tide a little after 8am Saturday, and the bottom of the ramp can be slippery.

Do you have a plan on what you will be using?

I think the gate to the parking lot is open all the time. Seems a little sketchy early in the morning but I feel safe as others start to arrive.

Planning to go Saturday if the weekend honey do list doesn’t get too big.

If I go will most likely troll herring, and/or drift swim baits.

What kind of swim baits? I’ll bring a backup in case I run out of herring and squid.

Conditions have me thinking about doing this.  I'm not a fan of fishing in a zoo though, all signs are pointing to a slaughter this weekend.

Hey Mark, thanks for the info, most appreciated. I plan to bring herring and will try trolling, I may also use lure on a drop shot if casting out. It will be my first time out so I'll bring several options and see what bites. Look forward to meeting you fellow anglers, I'll arrive early 0630 to 0700, good luck all, R.

Morning Gents, for lures I either use a bucktail or a modified bucktail, I remove the plastic and add a berkley gulp to the rear. I think I may bring a few styles of lures and just see if anything gets the flatties attention.

Most of the time I will drift a swim bait with the tide, and troll against the current because the swim bait won't stay down. I like using the Lucky Craft Flash Minnow , but reports keep coming in that herring is the go to right now. For the swim bait I use a Big Hammer with a 3oz jig head, and some type of grub 12-18" above.

Trolling to the hali grounds, once I arrive, unless I have live bait, I’ll whip da swimbait…
What say you?  I think it looks freakin’ delectable :smt006
