Came by again last night looking for some rat snacks.  Since it may be eating them, I'm not going to put out poison again.  Will order some traps and start taking care of business.  Might setup the gamecam for some better footage of the lion too.

cornbread mix and baking soda...they'll basically explode from within

Thanks for the tip. The rats are gone!! I mixed cornmeal with baking soda, a bit of sugar. Used gloves to avoid scenting the paper bowls, which I bought (plus fresh ingredients) from the store. On the first day no customers. Was bummed. Same on second and third. On Fourth day they devoured it. We never saw them again.

The only challenge was the rain. It destroys the mix. But thankfully it came after the rats had their fill

I tip my hat
to the mighty rat

Just under $4ooo damage on my wife’s car and aaa will want to total it if any more bills. Good to know it falls into comprehensive. I tied a trap to the top of the battery and it disappeared…it was triggered and dragged way down into the bowels of the engine and no rat. I had to take out the whole battery case to get it out

So far only two squirrels and a bird have met their maker in the traps and can’t get no satisfaction of seeing a dead rat…yet

Good news is they’re finally munching the poison

I'm glad I found this thread.  Sorry some of ya'll dealing with some serious damage.  Good to know I'm not the only one dealing with some smart rodents though.  I've bought all type of traps and put delicious goodness, peanuts dipped in fresh peanut butter topped with dried cherries and cranberries.  In the past, they set off a few traps baited with peanut butter and now I think they wised up, the won't touch any of them.

I have resulted to using those DCON poison blocks near a hole I found by my shed and they have hauled off 8 of those and I'm thinking its either not working or there's a crapload of them living under my garden shed.  I really didn't want to use poison but at this point, thats the only thing they will eat, don't know if its working though since they keep taking it with no end in sight.  I guess keep baiting it til nothing takes it?

I’m batting 100% on the OG traps in my home.
Secret bait?  A piece of fried Tuyo (dried fish) inserted tight on the bait holder.
Large traps for the rats and the mini trap for the mice.

Poison pellets are no good since they might eat it and run in the attic and small crevices in the house and stink up the whole place.

I find the large snap traps work just as well for mice as long as the bait is secure like you mention.

I had a situation just like that, where I put out poison blocks, and they kept disappearing. After this had gone on for quite a while (I'd guess at least 15 blocks had vanished), there was an incredibly foul smell outside, and I found a huge dead opossum (or possum, if you prefer)...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I have fish fermenting and a compost bin back there, I probably wouldn't even notice a dead animal.  :smt005

But now you got me wondering if a possum or raccoon has been taking the bait...there's plenty of those around here.

Rats...   :smt013

In the 4Runner I always carry water for Bacon and I to drink, usually 1gallon jugs.  I lost the top to my jug when I went to Bullards a couple weekends ago, but kept the bottle until I bought a new one to replace it.  Last weekend I loaded up my trailer and hit the road and when Bacon declared that she needed water I pulled out the jug and filled a cup and gave it to her and put it back in the foot well.  Got to my camping spot and was unloading gear and pulled the bottle out and it had two dead rats in it. :puke: I'm really not sure if I drank any of the rat water but for sure Bacon did and it grossed me out enough to almost throw up.

I'm renewed in my desire to kill off these disgusting rodents...  putting traps in the truck tonight and the storage shed.  Gonna have to try this

The green chunk poison didn't work for me either btw, couple bites and never touched again.  I had recalled using some poison pellets in the past that worked well, but cant remember the name.  Anyone have a poison recommendationions?

I buy the green poison blocks from Home Depot (I think advertised as mice poison).  I put the block inside a baggie, smash with a hammer, then mix with peanut butter. Rats eat it up.

Selontra in a bait station works well.  It's what the majority of pest control companies use these days. They eat a small portion and die between 1 and 4 days later. A rat or mouse eat a small enough quantity that if a dog or other animal eats a dead rat or two it won't make them sick. Rats are pretty smart about traps and bait, but they gobble Selontra up even when other food sources are available.
