Bueno no bueno….satisfied but not… I’m so cheap I used an E string from a guitar which is doable.  This is 130lb.  Strong ass loop but the final needle extraction failed.  Hope I can manage this skill with 60lb hollow core…stay tuned… :smt006

I'm pretty good at making loops in 100lb, and 30lb but serving leaders is quite a bit more challenging. Will you just be making loops, and buying pre-tied leaders? If you are going to try making leaders too I made a serving jig, and have all the needles that you could use for awhile. I can drop the stuff by the shop (I know where you work) next week (fishing tomorrow Contra Loma).

When I went tuna fishing last year I tangled on the first drop, and lost the loop, and wind on.

Thanks Mark!  The serving jig is my next project but would love to borrow for reference, use and copy at any givin' moment you have to stoke me.  I am intending to make wind on leaders for different weight jigs able to switch out if I need to go from 15lb. to 30lb. flouro or mono depending on technique...I'm playing with 7g to 100g flat falls fo da slow pitch... :smt007 :smt006

Are you splicing the fishing line to create the loop? I've spliced some ropes for various sailing rigs on my AI, kinda like this:

Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Here is an example of a wind on leader, and loop. The name implies that you can wind it on your reel without fouling in the guides plus 100% connection strength:

I appreciate the definition of why it's called a wind on leader.  The name of it kinda bugged me until now... :smt006

Looks pretty solid for the most part!!! The DaHo needle kit makes this so so nice to do!! Also for building leaders. the reverse latch needle is a really useful tool for this, none of that rolling it inside out business. strong as hell too. We had 26 to 30# drag at the reel for the 7ish min fight on this 75# fish and were only running 80# Leader. the loops held and the served leader didn't slip

Yeah brah!  I saw that set and went cheapo and bought a roll of copper rigging wire and I have one hollow splicing needle for 50# mono.  Barely fit 30# in it.  I don’t expect any monsters where I fish and if it goes down, wsb, thresher, 40” club anything my system hopefully sticks… :smt006

Gotcha the wire folded over makes a pretty good loop needle too!

Feeling like a cave man asking, but what is a hollow core loop used for?  I can guess tuna since there is a picture of one, but what is the specific technique you are using here?
