Feeling like a cave man asking, but what is a hollow core loop used for?  I can guess tuna since there is a picture of one, but what is the specific technique you are using here?

Wind-ons were originally used for big game fishing where connection strength is critical. You have a loop on your main line, and a loop on your wind-on leader. The loops are fastened together for a 100% connection. Even the best knots do not have 100% connection strength, and must be tied perfectly.

These days hollow core is available down to 20lb test.

Here is an example of how they are connected:

It's ok, I've been fishing since I could walk and had the same question, haha.

For me and hollow core philosophy, I'm attempting to have pre made leaders ready to switch out when I change out jigs from 7-20g to 80-120g.  Seems like a lot of learning for a simple purpose.  7-20g jigs flutter better on 15lb. test mono or flouro and 30lb. is ok for 80g and up.  I could imagine one rod performing a multitude of techniques just by changing out the leader.  I do not want to tie a new knot everytime I change weight of jig.  I do not mind the knot slamming against my guide in my present technique though it is a small fg knot.  It still causes a glitch in a potentially solid system.  I'll probably have one rod for whipping a swimbait, one for jigs(slowpitch), one for live or dead bait.  I try not to troll as often as possible.  Ultimately I'm on the hunt for a smoother simpler system while on the water though the leader prep seems tedious and committed.  My base braid is going to be 30lb. sufix 832 in white spliced to 50 yds of 60lb. hollow ace spectra finished with a loop splice.  To this I will attach all techniques I can imagine.  I'm not sure how this will work for sturgeon but I've got some ideas.  Certainly not keeping it simple though that is my goal... :smt006

No, is it near impossible after fishing tension?

Its possible. Even easier with a pic. I troll mad macs out and then swap to my live bait leaders. 130 JB. It might be hard with 80 or 60 though...

Havin' fun and made my first wind on leader.  Made a loop in 60lb HC thanks to MarkL's latch needle.  Sandpapered off two ft. of a 7ft. 30lb mono invisxx or whatever its called and used my Daho to run it up the hollow core 2ft.  Pulled back the hollow sleeve and glued it after securing it in MarkL's jig and served it with dental floss, many half hitches and finished with a resoto.  Very pleased and trusting this leader to the max.  Now I'm going to splice 30lb. Braid from my spool to an undetermined amount of 60lb. HC for attaching my leaders.

Mark L loaned me this jig.  Hey Mark, I'm gonna post some close ups...I love it as well as I know no different.  Threaded rods are 20" apart and 11" off the board.  Mark mentioned he would of used thicker rods.  He also shaved off thread so one could wrap the line around the rod to achieve very tight tension for the server tool.  I just hand served it with braid and or dental floss and glue. He also mentioned he would have used a heavier or thicker base.  Marco!   Correct me or chime in, thanks again… :smt007 :smt006

Oh nice, that looks great!  Reminds me that I still need to build the tedski dropper loop jig!

I looked at ones available, and they are pretty pricey. I just used standard hardware store stuff. Some 3/8” threaded rod, fender washers, rubber washers, nylock nuts, wing nuts, and Teflon washers. Probably the most important step is to remove the treads, and polish in the area where the braid is wrapped. Around $20, and an hour or so to fabricate. Works pretty good.

Great thread guys.

I look forward to the day when I have time for some of the more finer techniques such as this.

With work and life at home, I have had to resort to a quicker/crude setup.

The problem is it only works with 8000 lb braid and mono :smt002

Look forward to the catches/reports, guys

I was taking a look at my slow pitch setup, and here is a picture of my 30lb hollow with 20lb floro serve.
