Sharko, I would try to spread the crossbars farther apart if possible. Otherwise they look very close to each other.

I can try spreading them out a bit I was just going off the instructions of 24".
We're going to need a smaller boat.

I have seen a Geo Metro and Smart Car with Kayaks on them, a Prius with a yak is very common. Now will it haul all your gear????

I've nested 2 Hobie Outbacks on my little Mazda 3 and drove them 60 miles to McCovey Cove without a problem.  Just be sure to tie down both front and back.

I did mine at 24" apart because that is all the car would allow.  I never had a single issue, but I did strap it 2 twice over the body and then one at the front and the end.  80 mph no issues!
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

I just need to pick up a few more straps form work. But I think that will do.

Sharko, you may also wanna load that bad boy upside down if you can. It's supposed to reduce wind lift and vibration when going at higher speeds.

Before I put a rack on it, I used one of those kayak kits (foam pads and straps) to transport a kayak on our mini-van a couple times. Worked fine.

It will work fine, but you can damage the roof. Not much, but possible dents in the roof, which might be visible if you can see the roof. Same on the minivan, but you can't see the roof.

I used a piece of foam on the front and back edges of the roof of a rental car in Hawaii - tied the kayak down with webbing straps through the windows - only went about about 7 miles each way, did it twice. No marks!  :smt002
