So I finally got my first kayak. Thought that might be the hard part. Only to remind myself I drive a Prius. Next how to mount a 13.2' kayak on a 14' car. Any ideas? Im.open to suggestions.
We're going to need a smaller boat.

Before I put a rack on it, I used one of those kayak kits (foam pads and straps) to transport a kayak on our mini-van a couple times. Worked fine.

Lots o people do, just make sure to use bow and stern tiedowns, especially important when the rack landing points aren't very far apart.  More will chime in, probably some with pics....

You wouldn’t believe all the stuff Moo can fit in his car either until you’ve seen it!

I carried my Ocean kayak on a Yaris which is the same size.  Got a roof rack and strapped it down with 4 straps.  1 in the front an rear 2 on the mid section.  I could load my kayak on the car in the garage so I was ready to go in the morning without having to do anything.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

There's an old post about a simple but effective front tied down point.  You open the hood, remove one of the fender bolts, take a length of nylon strapping, make a loop and burn a hole for the bolt to go through, reinstall the bolt with the nylon loop, close the hood.  Now you have a strap for the front tie down and when not in use, you hide it under the hood.

I saw someone on the highway with 3 kayaks on a Prius. Wish I could have gotten a picture of that.

Wow! Did they have a mount for their mirage drive to pedal with to reach highway speeds?  :smt003

I just need to pick up a few more straps form work. But I think that will do.
