Thanks for the info. I think I was over sizing a little.

Nice work Dude!  What kinda guides you got on that?  Silicon Nitrides?  I really like the GFX blanks for spectra... very nice action.  I also like that X-flocked shrink tube... it really feels good in the hand.  Good work with the turk's head knot as well.

No the guides are just bhnlgs I have them on a cupple of rods with spectra without a problem. plus I had to save money somewere as that blank was not cheep.

The turks heads were the hardest part of the whole thing I have a smaller one linking the butt cap to the srink tube.

FYI... Ken's Custom Reels in Oceanside CA (760-967-REEL) still has a good price on Progear Classic 501 reels.  They have increased in price just a bit since the Fred Hall show, but they are now going for $140 plus tax and shipping... not bad considering they are $200 everywhere else.  I think they have gold colored ones left.

I just bought one and I likey... spooled it with 50# Sufix braid... holds over 300 yds of that stuff, or they hold 400 yards of 40# powerpro.

Nice reel... star drag...  6.1:1 gear ratio... penn carbon fiber drag... weight is 18 oz.  I can't wait to hear it go zzzzzzing!

Just recieved mine today, it's only been a few minutes since the UPS guy delivered it but I think I'm already emotionally involved.   :smt007
My Penn 965 just told me that it now feels inadequate.

Had it spooled with 300yds of 30lbs spectra and 30lbs CXX top shot.

I was hoping to make due with one of the rods I already have but it almost seems like a crime not to buy a new rod specifically for the reel.  What to do...
