It was a nice morning for a paddle, but the bite sucked. Launched from the SC harbor at 8:30 - dead low tide, but the mouth was fine. Worked lighthouse reef and dog bone reef for a big skunk. Had a couple of light bites that stole a little bit of squid but nothing serious. Drifted whole squid over the reefs, shrimp flies, iron, swim baits, big ass curly tails -- couldn't buy a bite. Lots of other boats around and I didn't see a single hook up.

I guess the saying is correct -- THERE ARE NO FISH IN SANTA CRUZ!

Cheers,
Brad

That's because Bushy ate them all.

What is 'dog bone' reef?  How deep were you fishing.  This time of year especially with the bigger swell, deeper is better.  Call us on CH 69 tomorrow.  I'l be with Polepole.  He kinda sucks as a fisherman, but he's often lucky.

I'd seen the "Dog bone" name on here - https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1SYUmINZWFe62d-3UARc8v0NQEGg&hl=en_US&ll=36.94891139233464%2C-122.01794013232421&z=13

Basically the reef system SW of lighthouse reef. We fished from 30' to 65' for the same results. Hope you got them today - we're opting for land based activities today.

Cheers,
Brad

Ok I think I know that spot.  There is a high spot right around there.  The "Dog Bone" as in THE dogbone is an offshore pinnacle usually used as reference while tuna fishing.  It's like 25 miles off of Monterey way offshore.

I've never heard local parlance refer to a spot over off West Cliff as the dog bone.  Looked at some of the other points on that map and some are way off.  funy thing is, you can catch fish at most of those spots as marked...I just won't know where you're going haha or where you've been.

Maybe I should break down and put together a map with gps references for all at NCKA to use.  I have some valuable historical data from local families with decades of experience..........

Nahhh.  You'll just have to come fishing with me for me to share my numbers haha.  The hand-written list I have has "YOUR EYES ONLY" scrawled across the top of page one.

And, I was skunked today too.  Mile buoy to Black's Point 45-60 FOW.  Nuttin' Honey.

Sure good to paddle though.  Maiden voyage  for my new Trident 15.  The boat has yet to be blooded.  I promised AGarcia I'd go the pencil-thin route it's been so long since I've seen my chin.
