Tomorrow night there is a meeting here in Lake California, unless someone has found a different place to hold our first Redding HOW event I am going to propose the following:

Date: Friday - May 1, 2015 9:00 am until 3:00 pm

Catch and release only

Participants (Veterans) - 12 or fewer (between Headwaters and Don we have over 20 kayaks so shouldn't need any additional) guides bring their own kayak.

Fishing - At least 10 rods right now, may need a couple more, fishing will be bass, crappie, bluegill, redear perch, catfish, soft plastic worms with no or little weight work well for the larger bass.

Total Guests: 30 or fewer, (includes the 12 veterans), guides other volunteers needed for assistance, (this does not include those who live here and have volunteered to help with chase boats, food prep, set up etc. many Veterans and their families live here I would like to offer to veterans who live here first)

Launch: Picnic area, beach (pictures posted previously)

Food - lunch TBD, possibly some donuts or something for breakfast?

Jan 19 - Updated List for May 1 event:

Grimkeeper, Jesse, two kayaks, extra fishing gear,
Fisheducator, Tim, two kayaks, extra fishing gear,
Eastonkayaker, Bryan, two kayaks, extra fishing gear,
Codzilla, Jeff - guide (fishing gear?)
Headwaters, Joe and Terri, six hobies, plus some eddyline,
Inservice, two kayaks, fishing gear,
Danglin, 5 kayaks,
Glenn, True Rec

Appreciate those who volunteered on other dates, especially Rob who was willing to make it on the 24th  with the 8 kayaks just before he traveled for a few weeks.

Please chime in if I missed you or you would like to be added as guide/volunteer.

Bryan

Hey Jeff,

Meeting is actually one I have to attend here at LC to confirm date with the POA. Will have a meeting for the local HOW guys in the next couple weeks once approved and we know we have a set place and time.

Update on holding event at Lake California May 1.

I spoke with the board members, all positive response, however they do have to place the request on the agenda at next monthly meeting which is Feb. 17, so we won't know for sure until then.

Even though that the vote seems like a formality I suggest we continue to look around for other places to hold events, hopefully this is just the first of many and we want to have more participants than the 12 we will be limited to at LC.

Also to make the Redding HOW group successful we still need 1 or 2 people in the Redding area to step up and go through the approval process to represent HOW at local events, this gives more credibility to the group when we talk to people/businesses about events, including the VA, local sponsors, event sites, fund raising etc.

If you are interested you should PM Don (Danglin).

Great!!!

and well said Bryan…

AS far as someone, and a team, ( very important ),  take your time, this can be a demanding position.  The good news is you have resources and great water. I can handle much of what you need detail wise till someone wants to move into that role. I'm not sure how backed up HOW is with this as National is looking for their new area coordinator now. So, again, no rush on this and please, anyone interested should PM me to ask about what is involved.

But, to be clear… I am not the " Decider…".   :cowboy_smoke: I would get you in contact with Jim Dolan. National and Jim are the ones who help you through the process of becoming a chapter.

It's only a finger nail pulling session and your first born…   :smt002   just kidding…no Big Deal, but in case ya have something to hide, let it be known that Background checks are done on all team members as to keep integrity to the program and that we can safely say to the military and other orgs that help wounded warriors, that our people have been checked out.  This check is done by one of the HOW board members company and is on the up and up.

There has been some movement on a Redding HOW chapter.

Thanks to Don and Anthony Schuman who is west coast HOW rep, the national organization knows of our interest and we are high on the list to get started. It will be good to have a HOW chapter in this area, it is a long distance for Don and other volunteers to travel, plus there will always be conflicts on dates and scheduling use of kayaks etc. Looking forward to having our own trailer full of gear.

Will provide more info over the next week or two but it is looking very positive.

FYI, below is thread for our first event, a week from Friday. We already have 6 veterans and some of their family members signed up, I am sure there will be more.

Filling out paperwork for HOW, what do you think of "Shasta HOW"? I believe it is more inclusive of entire area then Redding HOW and more people will recognize the name.

What does everyone think? Any other ideas?
