Lake California (LC) Friday, May 1, from 9:00 am to 3:00 PM

Update March 31,

We are all set, insurance is in place and lunch is being provided, have three participants who live in the community, now working with local VA to bring us up to 10-12 Veterans. If any of you have been talking with local VA let me know so we are all on same page.

Headwaters will provide 12 kayaks but would like to have a couple extra just in case, if you willing to bring a second kayak even if we don't use that day let me know.

Plan for the day is to start at 0900 give instruction and have everybody on water by 9:30, fish a couple hours then lunch and back on the water until 3:00 pm.

Fishing reports are very good for perch, crappie and bass, lake water level is up to normal.

I am hearing a lot of positive comments from the community believe if this goes well we will be able to have a lot more participants at next event. Look forward to seeing everyone there.

A couple notes from my meeting with the LC POA.

Participants (Veterans) - 12 or fewer

Catch and release only

PFD's to be worn by participants and volunteers

Was suggested we invite veterans who live within Lake California first and/or veterans who have family members that live in the community. I can take care of this by putting the word out.

I told them it would probably be 30 or fewer people through the security gate, (includes veterans, guides other volunteers needed for assistance), this does not include those who live here and have volunteered to help with chase boats, food prep, set up etc.

Launch: Picnic area, beach (pictures posted previously)

Food - lunch TBD, I am thinking simple for first event, sandwiches, chips and sodas?? Possibly something light for breakfast?

Feb 17 - Updated Volunteer List

Grimkeeper, Jesse, extra fishing gear,
Fisheducator, Tim, extra fishing gear,
Eastonkayaker, Bryan, extra fishing gear,
Codzilla, Jeff - guide (fishing gear?)
Headwaters, Joe and Terri, six hobies, plus some eddyline,
Inservice, fishing gear,
Glenn, True Rec
Beenfishin, guide, fishing gear

Fishing - At least 10 rods right now, may need a couple more, fishing will be bass, crappie, bluegill, redear perch, catfish, soft plastic worms/tubes with no or little weight work well for the larger bass. Lake is 110 acres, average 6 -8 ft. deep with 11-12 feet at deepest spot

Please chime in if I missed you or you would like to be added as guide/volunteer.

Awesome work Bryan. I can't think of a better venue around here. I think the LC community is really gonna be behind this after they see what it's all about. Heck, I can't wait to see what it's all about. Stoked.

I dunno if everyone would be keen to the idea, but I've got a lot of deer burger and wild pig sausage that I like to blend and make sausage gravy and drop biscuits. I've got a nearly unlimited supply of farm eggs for scrambies too. Could just get a few pounds of breakfast sausage for the gravy if wild game might weird some people out.

Huge thanks for getting the ball rolling on this one Bryan! Headwaters will help with anything you guys need. We have had a few people come into the shop asking how they can volunteer also.

Fishing is picking up, small bass are out, 12-14", big ones are hiding, water is still cold but grasses are starting to grow around edges, should be very active soon.

I'm going to post up your event on the our HOW Facebook page and events calendar on the HOW web site…  this usually does not bring much if any in participants, but it does not hurt to put it out there for someone whom may need it…  this will be the only outreach I'll do till we know what you guys want or have already in the way of vet participants. I do have several connections, but with the limitation of this venue, we should wait till a bigger venue for the future  to activate these resources.

Thanks Jesse, will let you know.

A couple other things we need to discuss:

Will we have some kind of breakfast?

Also will be looking for volunteers to bring coolers, ice and drinks. My wife and I will supply four cases of water.
