I wouldn't get waders with attached boots. If you ever end up in the water, and you probably will, those heavy, clunky boots won't make for easy swimming/rescuing. Safety first!

I'm thinking for this reason, for me, just farmer johns / paddling booties might be the way to stay.

The breathable waders are better for year round use. I like the boot for saltwater use as I only use the boot or add calks when on jetty rocks. I like Hodgman for quality and value. I paid half the price of Orvis or similar breathable waders and the Hodgman Cedar Run waders have a good warranty. Best price was direct from Hodgman.

Boot foot are good for duck hunting and boat waders. If you want comfort and mobility go stocking foot. X10 if you pedal as those lug boots will drive you crazy.

Stocking foot have more versatility.
You definitely don't want the boot foot if you are using them on your kayak.
Practice swimming with a pair and you'll know why.

I used to wear waders for a living.  Stocking foot all the way.  Wading boots fit better and offer way more ankle support than slip on boots.

As others have said they are also much more versatile.  Felt soles, studded soles or Crocs are all options with the same waders.

I used to be a real wader snob.  A few years back I got a pair of Hodgeman breathables that I "had to wear" during the filming of a tv show.  They have become my favorite pair ever and have been super durable.

Bootfoot sucks in the surf.  You want to be wearing neoprene boots for the surf.  Much more comfortable for those long walks in the sand.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Muckboots work great for surf fishing and walking in the sand is no problem!

There are some good deals @ Sierra Trading Post today. If you use code ZZZ7934R you get an extra 25%, 30%, or 35% off depending how much you spend ($75, 100 or 125). So the Hodgeman Pipestone breathable stocking-foot waders come out to $52...but sizes are limited on waders/items that are already discounted.

I donated a set of neoprene boot waders from Walmart a couple of years ago, the chest strap like to choke me to death.  Heavy, could not walk far in them. I got htem years ago when I used to fish the colder east coast streams for trout, they had been taking up space so they had to go.  Now I would look for a light wieght pair in stocking feet.
