I use a 3 way swivel and tie my teaser to the third eye. Doesn't weaken the leader to my swim bait/iron

on your ling rig, you have pre made leaders ?
you dont just have leader material tied to your main ?
Ya mon :smt004. Mainline tied to swivel, swivel to leader, leader to jig w/swimbait.  Pretie leaders with a dropper loop.  Be happy to show us, if u show up at the lowrance rf classic.

Am I the only one who thinks that a rockfish tournament on the rugged and raw North Coast might not be the best situation to kayak in the ocean for the FIRST time?!?!?

Well that's good. I guess I just stick with the "walk before you run" mindset. The North Coast is no joke.

One of the great things about this place is the huge cove. From the southwestern tip of Fish Rocks to the south side of the beach is over 3/4 of a mile. The wind normally comes from the NNW or NW so most of this water has some protection with lots of places to hide. Even right in front of the beach there is some rocks that hold huge lings and rockfish. See the map so you can get a better understand what I'm talking about. But it really comes down to your comfort level and how prepared you are. Hope this helps.

Is there a place to avoid there like shallow reefs that produce sleeper gnarly waves from time time like HMB??

U can see some rough depth ranges and other detail on this screenshot of Gualala quad map, combine this with map posted by Wingshooter and u can get pretty good idea of what you'll be lookin at...

There is a wash rock out in the middle of the bay but is almost always visible that can get some breakers in the right conditions. Also just off the point you will see breakers rolling through there as well. For the most part I haven't seen too many breakers out in the open water.

Yeah, in general, the north coast in November might not be the "ideal" time & place to try saltwater yakfishing. BUT...going out with a big group of accomplished & helpful kayakers is probably a good way to experience the salt for the first time. I say go for it.

It's all depends on the conditions. My best day on the water last year from a condition standpoint was Dec. 31 at anchor bay.

If we get up there and the conditions aren't right don't go out.
