How are Hobie Pro Anglers for our NorCal oceans?

Anyone have any problems with the larger rudder after longer use? Like the lines breaking or getting worn faster? I have a revo 11 and just got turbo fins and the larger rudder, would just like to avoid the problems that might happen with this setup before they happen to me on the water.

I've got over a year into my PA 14'. I had to adjust the rudder after the first few times out...probably just breaking it in. I do want to get the new PA rudder...I'm hoping it will track better then the stock rudder does...well see.

I'm considering this rig.  It's nice but I'm worried how it is launching from the surf and use in our waters considering our waters are much rougher then San Diego.  Here's the info on it.  Btw, this would be my first yak.

If you want to launch in the surf, you should NOT be considering a PA at all.  I'm not saying it's not saltwater worthy, but I have high doubts that it can make it though the surf zone of a normal beach/surf launch.  Not to mention having that huge heavy boat coming at your head if you mess up your launch or landing.  Go with a Revo 13 if you want to have the most versatile Hobie out there, and be able to launch it anywhere you feel like.

Oh the PA14… I have had one for now about a year and a half. I love the PA but it has its pros and cons. Now to tell someone to take it into the ocean ….. That is more on your skill level. I will say it is a lot more work to haul it around and better yet its really fun to launch where no boat ramp is. I knew all this ahead of time and still wanted the PA14 for space and comfort. I have launched at most coves on the Sonoma coast and had no problems… Stillwater is no fun to carry the " battleship" across the beach and rocks but still have done it. I would be glad to let you use mine one time and see what you think. Its over 100lbs so after trolling all day loading and pulling it back to camp can be no fun so also take that into account. also Im always in the rear of the group trolling as this has more drag in the water then the Revo or Outback … more the turtle then the hare(bluefin). Well hope this added a little prospective. I love my PA for ocean fishing if I didn't say.

Is it the greatest kayak for dragging across the beach? NO 

Is it the fastest kayak on the water? NO

Is it a stable platform capable of ocean fishing?  Yes, but you will have to use some common sense.  I watch the weather and swell report as well as I pick and choose where I'm willing to launch.  I love the fact that I can carry anything I want out there with me including my 11 year old son when he wants to go.  I love the stability of the hull and it makes for a comfortable day of fishing sitting in my "lawn chair" seat.

If you are gonna do any surf launching revo 13. The outback paddles like a tub and I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to paddle the PA
