I have the same problem. I've learned to quickly reintroduce myself when I can't remember a name. Give them a friendly handshake and my name. It breaks the tension and the other person always replies back with their name.

I like the name tag idea. I am one of the directors for Granite Bay Flycasters and it has helped me a bunch of times. I like to use people's names when I talk to them.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Many years ago I was in industrial sales.  In sales ,you have got to remember names, and I used to stress out every time I pulled into a parking lot for a sales call.  One day I realized that if I just stalled a minute, the name would  pop in to my mind, and "come to me" somehow.  So I started relying on that & it worked every time!  Talk about stress relief.  Maybe relax, & give it a try.  Just say "hey, how you doing?" And the name pops into your mind.  Or "what's up" and you 'll finish by adding their name.  Try it?

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I will usually remember someone's name after going fishing with them. But if it's just some random person I met one time at a shop...or conversed with on the internet, then I'm less likely to remember.
It will be easy to remember you, Scott, even though we never met. Because I will always remember you as the crazy Broncos fan who talked so much trash... :smt044  Hey only 4 more months until football!

worse even..I seem to use first names when I begin to speak to folks...Ed? where did you get that fishfinder? oh really..thanks Ed!

then I find out later that the guys name was Steve, why they did not tell me that when I called them Ed for four hours on a jobsite or the like...I also sometimes have a mental deal where I think someones name is ,say, Phil and no matter how many times the guy tells me his name,if only see him like 2-3 times year at the store or something ...I'm like hey Phil whats up....you can see in their face that they were glad to see you and remembered your name, right up to the point where you again got theirs wrong

so bad...feel like shit ,bad

the worst is when folks come up & know your name, and in the back of your mind you are racing to try and recall their name while still engaging in conversation.

I usually just 'fess up and ask.
