For trout and Kokes you can just carry around an ice chest, especially in the Prangler. But yeah, i've been thinking about a kill bag for salmon fishing the rivers.

The Katch Kooler looks good and reasonably priced. This size would be perfect for me.

i had one of those ones that is narrow on one end for a kayak that i got from mooch years ago.  it worked ok, but after our Baja trip i bought a Reliable brand one from Charkbait.
That thing I LOVE.
four litre bottles frozen solid last all day +.
My salmon was cold cold.

I've been using it for more than just fishing now- as a regular cooler.

It is dead easy to clean, un zip, hose out, done.
They are NOT water tight- so don't expect to toss it into your car and not get blood everywhere.

I put it on the haka (makes a nice padded seat too), in a regular yak it would suck-- 48"er is too big to effectively fit in a tank well.

In the past I used a soft-side cooler that was similar to the Silver Horde KatchKooler bag. It was great because I'd stash it inside the hull...leaving the deck and tankwell available/uncluttered. If I wanted to keep a fish, I'd put it on the gameclip, cut its gills and let it bleed out in the tankwell. Then open my middle hatch and slide the fish into my soft-cooler, which was full of frozen water bottles.

Unfortunately, I forgot to remove the cooler from a kayak that I sold about 4yrs ago!!! D'OH! So, if you're out there reading this and still using the soft-side cooler, let me know if it's still functional. (I had a feeling it would eventually be punctured by a rockfish spine)

Hai what do you think of the KatchKooler overall? It is definitely one of the more affordable of the kill bags.

I like it - the price and size is right for most species. The hope is that I'll ice the first salmon and will head in after #2. It rarely happens like that but at least I'm ready. Another good thing is that it fits in a black garbage bag so that you can protect it from the salt water.
