Went out again yesterday 7-16 with Jaime. The water temps had fallen again to 64 degrees. The mullets that had been plentiful the last few days on Medano beach in front of my resort had all but dissipated. Most of the bait fishermen only had caballitos for bait but we were lucky to score some tortillas as well.

It was a cold morning with a slight breeze and fast drift. Unfortunately the colder water made the grouper bite non existent. The marlin were biting off shore but we decided to head North on the Pacific past the light house to see if the roosters were still around.

After about a 20 minute ride we noticed a bunch of birds diving in the distance. As we approached them we saw a massive boil with hundreds upon hundreds of mullets leaping out of the water in schools the size of SUVs. Each time the schools would leap out of the water they would cover about 15 feet in distance across the surface in unison. Right behind the fleeing mullets were roosters ranging in between 30-60 lbs class. They were feverishly attacking the mullets as they were surfing the water with their combs fully erect.

We soon noticed that this same scene was happening at least 1/2 mile in every direction we looked. It was like we were the epicenter of a enormous feeding frenzy. It was an epic boil with roosters, mullets, pelicans, frigates in a massive carnage.

Jamie was astonished and said that this was a very rare sight to behold.

We tossed out our tortillas and waited anxiously for a pez gallo to come up on our presentation.............No takers.

It was about 20 minutes before we had a pez gallo hookup on our tortilla baits. After a 35 minute battle on light tackle we took a couple of pics and released the fish. In my haste and still covered with rooster slime I dropped my phone and it exploded in pieces on the panga deck :smt013 :smt011 :smt010 :smt009.........(Luckily I was able to retrieve a couple of pics when I got back to my room).

It wasn't long before we hand another hookup and then another. I ended up landing a total of 3 cookie cutter gallos and lost another two after short battles. The massive feeding frenzy lasted about 3 hours with roosters busting the surface all around us and underneath the panga in packs of up to a dozen at a time.

It was a sight I will remember for many years to come.

Thanks buddy  :smt005

I had a blast but unfortunately all good things had to come to an end  :smt010

Besides catching some nice fish down here the most memorable moments would be the time I was able to spend with my boys.........they just love this place and have been coming down here since they were 6 months old. We also got to spend some quality time with an old friend and his family and he took my two sons out on a waverunner for their first time ever  :smt003  boy did they love that.........along with frolicking in the Sea of Cortez with one of their local buddies  :smt008

Oh and BTW I had bananas on the panga on each trip  :smt044 :smt044
