Same here; not knocking the DSI units. Just sharing my personal experiences with it. This is the 6th fish finder I have installed in/on a kayak (previous units being 3 Humminbirds, a Lowrance, and a Raytheon). And I have a cool new way to install the DSI transducer that I'm working on...I'll post pics once complete.

Oh, please share what you are doing.  My Lowrance Elite 7 is a dual function transducer; both broadband Sounder & DSI in one.  I was toying with the idea of mounting it to the end of the rudder, not really a fan of over the side mounts and I am informed by my friends at Lowrance that the DSI transducers don't work great as an in-hull mount due to the high frequency; ie. they like to be "wet".  I may try an in-hull block with petroleum jelly just to see what happens.  I know Al had good luck with his Elite 4 DSI in-hull, duct seal method.  Worth a try, worst case I pull it out of the block and toss it overboard for that trip.

I've had Lowrance/Eagle most my fishing life so I jumped at the chance to Pro Staff for Lowrance & Simrad.  I have no "skin in the game" but rather enjoy talking and learning about electronics.  Again, 10+ years with West Marine and I miss the "talking with the customers" aspect.  My new job doesn't involve much talking with customers anymore.
