You should buy a hawk instead. They're way better at fishing. And he could just ride on the bow like a badass hood ornament!

+1
there was a groupon last week for falconry lessons in SF  :)
they catch theyre own food
light weight
no barking
rare and individualistic
shows you've got "panache"
could be trained to locate schooling baitfish, hover above until youyi get there and ride with you eating a snack (rat) while you sifh the bait ball
is very much more macho than the viet. fishing cormorants

;)
I think Calypso should get her hawk back and train em' to locate the fish for her  :smt044

I've owned 5 pugs over the last 40 years , great little dogs - if you can stand their snoring...

...and farting. :smt002

Sammy's looking sharp in his new PFD (Pug Flotation Device).
He's ready to hit the water this weekend.

Pug. They think they are human. Rarely bark, like to chill and could care less about birds. They usually hover around 20lbs. "A big dog in a small dogs body." Once you go pug, you will never look back. Not only are they rock stars from Mars, they are cute as a button. Ask Alfredo.

Chillin

I have a Pug / Chihuahua mix, Not only is he cute as a button, his name is 'Buttons'.  (After I got him fixed, I referred to it as 'lost his buttons' and hence the name, "Buttons".  They are like a miniature pug.  Mine loves to ride on my motorcycles; both my dirt bike and my street bike.  Soon as he hears any motor start he hops up on it.  Not just my motorcycles but even my lawn mower, weed eater, backpack blower, etc.  He thinks anything that makes that noise means we are going for a ride.  Doesn't each much; 1/2 cup of dry dog food 2x a day.  He likes his life vest and sits on the back of the Hobie PA I have without any problems.

Awwww, the Pug's and Chugs are really cool dogs.  Wish I had jumped on the ones Chadrocks neighbor had....

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

JRT's are great dogs but they have high prey drives.  I can't take mine fishing with me as he barks non stop and has to be physically restrained or he will grab the fish.  I took him on the water once in my Gregor at Silver lake right after ice out.  I was reeling my line in while moving along via the trolling motor at maybe 1 mph and I heard a splash, my JRT had jumped into the 48 degree water after a stick.  I made a grab for him as he floated by and managed to get the handle on top of his doggie PFD.  I have never taken him on the water again and no way I would take him on my Hobie Pro Angler.

The best dog... is the mellow one whatever breed that is... I have had Aussies for 25 + years and although they are smart (too smart at times), unless you like dog hair in everything you eat and have more energy than then the dog...you are screwed  :smt044. They need lots of exercise and have three types of hair that shed all year and in clumps in the spring and summer. We actually started to shave ours in the summer, except the mini as he already looks like a girl. :smt044. I used to sail in a small boat with a McNab about 25 years ago and she would settle down; however, was too smart and knew when to be afraid...  :smt001 The smart breds can really read you like a book :smt001

Have an aussie/collie mix and is always dropping hair everywhere. :smt01  But can't be a kayak dog cause he's too scared of water.  :smt012 Too smart sometimes and is scared at least 2 times a weak. :smt012 :smt005

Labs are Great water dogs.....which makes it difficult at times to keep them on the kayaks.
